Creative Ways to Enjoy Alphabet Scavenger Hunt Printables for Kids

Sure, alphabet scavenger hunts are awesome for younger kids, like toddlers and preschoolers, to practice letter recognition and sounds. But, you can also use these fun activities with your older kids, too!

Here are a few of the ways I like to enjoy alphabet scavenger hunts with my boys:

1. Travel Fun with Alphabet Scavenger Hunt for Kids

Play the Alphabet Game in the car during a trip. Just put one of the free printables found at the end of this post on a clipboard. Your child can use one of our recommended scavenger hunt tools to mark down what letters they find.

Younger kids can use an "X" or checkmark. Challenge older kids to write the word. Also, your kids can practice counting with tally marks.

2. ABC Scavenger Hunt for Indoor Fun for Kids

Got yucky weather? And tired of hearing "I'm bored!" and "There's nothing to do!"?

Pop one of these free scavenger hunt printables on a clipboard and turn your kids loose. Encourage your kids to be creative in finding letters in your home. Or limit which room(s) your kids can find their answers.

Have learning fun with an alphabet search!

3. Educational Video or App Fun with Alphabet Scavenger Hunt

Want a fun way to boost screentime or help kids pay attention to an educational video? Give them an alphabet scavenger hunt printable and instruct your kids to jot down words or draw objects for each letter of the alphabet.

4. Have an Alphabet Scavenger Hunt for Reading Fun

Use one of the alphabet scavenger hunt printables to search for (and practice writing) vocabulary, spelling, or just because words. This activity can also be a blast for read-aloud time or listening to audiobooks 🙂

5. Foreign Language Practice with Alphabet Scavenger Hunt

Are your kids studying a foreign language? Give them a fun challenge to search for and write down words for each letter of the alphabet from that language. (You may need to modify the printables according to the language of study.)

As I continue to think of new and creative ways to enjoy alphabet scavenger hunts with kids, I'll update here. Please share your fun ideas in the comments section below 🙂
