It is challenging for me to find fun educational games for use in our homeschool. With ages 2-13, my boys are on different levels of skills, abilities, and interests. One game may be too advanced for my littles while another game is “babyish” for the older boys.
I love when we discover a game that engages and allows for all boys to be present. (Chess is not one of those games. Xman who is 2 considers it a personal responsibility to knock down men as soon as they are situated.) Due to busy schedules to accommodate all of our interests and responsibilities, our time is precious so I try to use it wisely.

The boys and I were excited to open and use HoliMaths X, an innovative family math game. This colorful game immediately caught my boys’ attentions. I was shocked when they continued to dive into the game even after I mentioned that it was for learning and practicing multiplication (not a favorite in our homeschool!)
Read on to find out why this interactive multiplication card game was a hit with my boys-and to enter to win in a giveaway at the end this post!
HoliMaths X: Learning Math & More!
Before I get into the details of this family math game, let me share what stands out to me as innovative and unique. This game was designed to help players learn through experience. It also develops:
- logical thinking skills
- strategic thinking skills
- critical thinking skills
- patience with learning rules and taking turns
- tolerance to game frustration with others and self
My boys are competitive, some more than others. Professor (11) has been described as “intense” a.k.a. he does not like to lose. I loved watching him cooperate with his brothers as he helped his younger ones learn the rules. For him, it became an opportunity to grow in patience and understanding.
Innovative Family Math Game
Also, this game really gives you more bang for your buck! With 10 ways to play, there is no need to hear “Mom! I’m bored with this game!” Oh no! You can follow the instructions for these 10 ways to play-or make up your own!
We received two games, one for multiplication facts 1-6 and the other for 7-12 facts. We have tried a few versions and look forward to playing more of these 10 ways to play.
- Fast Expert
- Alert Expert
It is recommended that you begin with Stairs before moving on to Expert than Original. I suggest reading the rules for each way to play and selecting what works best for your family.
HoliMaths X is designed for use for 1-6 players, ages 7 & up. All of my boys (ages 2, 5, 7, 11, & 13) use it in some way. Xman (2) is learning his colors and numbers so we highlighted those aspects of the cards. Bear (5) loves to sort and make patterns with the cards. Smiley (7) is just getting started with multiplication concept and facts. Professor (11) and Captain (13) can always use a bit of extra math practice and challenge.
The Help Cards included in HoliMaths X have been tremendously helpful for Smiley. He is building his confidence in math, especially multiplication. Having a Help Card by his side, he has learned to quickly find the answer to a multiplication problem (and to check his older brothers!). His anxiety over answering multiplication problems that he does not know or has not been exposed to has greatly reduced.
One thing to keep in mind: we received HoliMaths X in Spanish. I can read zero Spanish. Fortunately, downloadable and printable instructions are available in English. We were able to easily play the games with these versions! Rules and instructions will be available in 5 different languages (English, Spanish, Brazilian Portugese, French, and German) in 2nd Edition (coming December 2016 or early 2017).
