Math Time Does NOT Need to Be a Struggle!
As a homeschool parent, it can feel so helpless when you want to help your student who's struggling with math. I know I felt that way with my oldest!
Instead of making any progress, it felt like we were moving backwards. His math mindset was so low and I didn't know what to do. Jumping around and trying different homeschool math curricula did not help his negative math experiences from his few early years at public school. We managed to get him through homeschool high school but it was miserable.
Professor (boy #2) didn't have quite the same struggle but had to work very hard to achieve the grades and test scores that he wanted for college. He used online programs for his high school math. And I'll never forget this incredible feedback that he gave me after taking the ACT and then college algebra courses: "Mom, thank you so much for helping me prepare. If there was one thing that I'd do different in our homeschool, it would be doing more paper work and testing for math."
He had so much test anxiety prior to and during the ACT. He felt that his test scores could have been better if he would have had more practice with written math work.
While I completely agreed with him, I wasn't sure what to use with his three younger brothers in our homeschool. I took his feedback and made this wishlist:
- Affordable
- Effective for different learning styles
- Short(er) lessons
- Customizable tracks
- Textbook, workbook, or other resources that my boys could hold and physically write out their work
- Not boring or distracting!
When Joleen (J.K.) reached out to me about her Learn Math Fast curriculum and told me more about this system, I felt like all of my wishes came true!
A Smart Way to Overcome Homeschool Math Concerns
Before I share how this system works, I wanted to see if you can relate to any of these common concerns and struggles that homeschoolers talk about when it comes to math time. If you can see your kids (or yourself) in any of these concerns, then I definitely think you should give Learn Math Fast a try:
- Do you worry about being "behind"? Maybe you jumped from curriculum to curriculum (like I did with my oldest)? Or math wasn't a big priority in the early years of your homeschooling? Perhaps your child or family member had physical or mental health issues that put math on the back burner for a bit?
- Are you concerned about gaps in your child's math knowledge? Not sure if your current resources are helping concepts stick?
- Is there a math mindset issue? Do you hear comments like "I'm not a math person", "I hate math", "I can't figure this out", or "Math is stupid"?
- Will your students be required to do any standardized testing for your state's homeschool laws? Or maybe your students are interested in going to college and will be taking SAT or ACT?
- Are your kids planning to attend some form school after homeschool high school (like college, university, or vocational training)? Want to make sure your kids have the math skills and knowledge that need for their future careers?
- Do you have a student (or think you may) with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and/or dysgraphia?
In our homeschool with five boys, I've had all of these worries or struggles. And I'll be the first to say that it's absolutely no fun, drains the energy out of you, and has you questioning if you should even be doing this homeschool thing.
Before you throw in the homeschool towel (at least with math), I have some very good news for you. There's a budget-friendly solution that's simple, open-and-go, and efficient. Enter the Learn Math Fast system...

The Learn Math Fast System
To get a better feel for the Learn Math Fast system, I spoke with Joleen over the phone. Psst! I used the direct line for support that you can use to get your questions answered, too!
Joleen shared her story of homeschooling her son, his journey, and why she put together this curriculum. Her son graduated from their homeschool at the age of 16 and tutored older college students!
Encouraged by her husband, Joleen created Learn Math Fast, a 7-volume workbook series to take students familiar with basic math facts (2 + 3) through mastery of Algebra I and II and Geometry. This system includes short lessons, worksheets to reinforce concepts, tests, and tools with helpful reminders so you can get right to the math without stressing about memorizing a formula.
There are some terrific tools that add to the value and effectiveness of this program. The Big, Big Bookmark is a durable 8 ½ x 11" cheatsheet with reminders, formulas, and examples. The Geometry Kit is a pencil pouch with hands-on tools and reminders.
Review Note:
My 8th grader was working on Algebra with a bit of Geometry using his online math curriculum. Overall, I thought he was understanding the material. When we started Learn Math Fast, we were both surprised to discover that he was missing some essential pieces (especially with finding volume and area). Through using the lessons and tools, he's feeling much more confident and understanding his work.

Frequently Asked Questions About Learn Math Fast
According to the recommendations provided on the site, you can typically start with a student around age 6 or 7. They will need to be able to count to 100, read and write numbers, be familiar with base 10 system, and know that 1+2=3.
If you want to use this system with more than one child, it can work. You can use the password provided when you purchase to access downloadable worksheets and tests. Then, print as many as you need to use with your family.
You can follow the suggestions for the different tracks. If you're really not sure, I think it's smart to use this free printable placement test. It's only three pages. You might even get a better idea of where to start just by looking at it!
Give Learn Math Fast a test drive by using the freebies and videos found on their site. I encourage you to use them with your students and get their feedback. Talk about the approach and why you think it could be beneficial for your kids.
Yes! If your student reads through all 7 volumes and does well on the tests, they can earn 3 high school math credits (for Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry).
It is recommended that all students start with Volume 1. From there, you can tweak your schedule or approach to the system:
1. Start around age 6 or 7. Lessons may take longer at this stage and that's totally okay!
2. Older or struggling students (9-14 years old) may move at a faster pace. Read through the lessons, complete the worksheet, and take the test. If your student has mastered the concepts, they can move on.
3. High school age (or older) and struggling to graduate: Read and complete at least one lesson per day for six days a week. Do not move on to another lesson until material is fully understood.
4. Fast Track (to finish the system in one year): Read every lesson without completing each worksheet. If you can successfully complete timed test, move on. If not, then go back and do the worksheet. Attempt 3 or more lessons a day. You can find a more detailed explanation in the introduction in Volume 1!

Why I Love This Homeschool Math Curriculum
I could go on and on about Learn Math Fast! I'll narrow it down to these 7 reasons why I know this system will be a game changer in our homeschool:
- Compared to some of the other options for homeschool math, I believe that Learn Math Fast is affordable. The price is incredible for everything that is covered in the 7 volumes AND how many grade levels that you can use it for.
- The customizable schedule (for the different tracks) makes it easy to adapt.
- The ability to use this system with multiple kids is wonderful. As a large family homeschool, I absolutely love it when I find quality resources that I can use with all of my boys.
- K.I.S.S. (keeps it short and simple). From our experiences so far, the lessons are to the point and what you need (without a bunch of fluff). Worksheets reinforce what's been covered in the lesson and the tests ensure mastery so there's no guessing if your student should move ahead or just passing them along.
- The hands-on tools and suggested activities make this curriculum stand out, especially for kinesthetic learners. You will need to use some common materials (like coins or candy bars) but can usually substitute with what you have in your home. The Geometry Kit (optional) is great to have for hands-on learning.
- I appreciate that creative ideas and activities are given that aren't babyish. The recommendations can be used for young or older learners without feeling awkward.
- I also appreciate that Learn Math Fast is self-paced and self-directed (with all answers and solutions provided). You don't need to purchase an extra teacher manual AND your student can progress based on their needs.
Bonus: Support! You can email or call the support line and get your questions answered by an actual human who listens, cares, and wants to help.
