If you are looking for some fun activities to do with your kids this holiday season, you will love this free printable pack of Do You Want to Build a Snow Globe? Fun! Find out how my boys and I are enjoying this simple game and coloring page for winter-themed homeschool fun.

My boys get so excited for the holiday season. As soon as the weather turns colder, they are eagerly watching the weather to see when our first snowfall will occur. We live in western Pennsylvania and are fortunate (well, depending on who you ask!) to usually get a bit of snow prior to Christmas. That snow, coupled with all of the holiday hype, sets my boys to bouncing off the walls.

One of the ways that I help my boys deal with the holiday stress and excitement is providing fun winter-themed activities for our homeschool and family. I actually thought of this Do You Want to Build a Snow Globe? game in August as I imagined new fun ways to channel my boys' energy into positive outlets.

These free printables can be used in a variety of ways. Use crayons, paints, Kwik Stix, markers, or colored pencils to decorate the coloring page. Your kids can also use the large or small blank templates to design their very own snow globes!

The game is rather simple and designed to be non-competitive. Each player uses the spinner to land on a color. They move their game piece ahead to that color. They can either use one of the provided decorations or draw their own decoration for a custom snow globe approach. (If using the provided decorations, you will need more than one copy of that printable.)  The game ends (if you choose) when the first person lands on "Let It Snow!". Or just continue the game.

You can encourage players to only use the colors that they land on to create their custom decorations. That approach would make for a very interesting snow globe!

Suggested Steps for Preparing & Using Do You Want to Build a Snow Globe? Game

  • Laminate the game board and spinner to extend usage
  • Print off enough copies of the large or small blank snow globes
  • Print off enough copies of snow globe decorations if using
  • If drawing your own snow globe decorations, have crayons, markers, or colored pencils ready for use
  • Brainstorm a list of decorations to use

The goal of the game is to just have fun. Talk about the different types of decorations typically found in a snow globe. Make a list of silly items that could be used. Do You Want to Build a Snow Globe? game is meant to be open-ended and a creativity boost.
