8 Easy Halloween Crafts for Kids

1. Ghostly lanterns

Ghostly lanterns are one of the most classic Halloween decorations of all time. These crafts are pretty simple to make at home. All you need are Mason jars, white paint, battery candles, and small Halloween-themed items.

You can allow your kids to paint the Mason jars with white paint and then place their favorite decorations inside. Painted rocks, small Halloween toys, and googly eyes are cute ideas.

Then, place a battery-operated candle inside and your ghostly lanterns are ready! Your kids can decide where to put these lanterns in the backyard or on the kitchen table. This short and fun project is fantastic for kids of any age to decorate for Halloween.

Jars

You can use Mason jars or recycled jars that you've saved and cleaned.

You can use white craft paint that you have. Washable paint can work well (and is wonderful for clean-up).

Googly Eyes

Try different sizes and color of googly eyes to make your ghostly lanterns unique.

2. Halloween-themed rocks

If you want to do something that involves nature, it's time to let your kids outside for a rock hunt! You can allow them to pick some from the backyard or go to the nearby park. DIY rock painting is an excellent way for kids to make Halloween decorations without spending much on crafts.

Once kids collect a few of their favorite rocks, give them white paint and black markers. Kids can draw skeletons, ghosts, cobwebs, or anything else that reminds them of Halloween. OR you can give them a full palette of colors to get creative with!

When dry, you can place these rocks around the house or pile them near the entrance. Rock painting allows kids to be as creative as they use their imagination and interpretation of the spooky season.

3. Monster masks

Most kids adore wearing masks. And monsters are essential parts of Halloween decorations. Combine those two things and you have a fun DIY project for everyone in the family. And the best thing is that you can use supplies in the house to make them!

If your children are too young, you can draw monsters and allow them to paint. Otherwise, kids can let their imagination run free and design masks based on their favorite monsters. They can use paper plates, feathers, markers, and other supplies to make monster marks.
