How Growth Mindset Themes Help Kids
Kids of all ages can benefit from learning and practicing growth mindset skills. These skills, based on the mindset work of Carol Dweck, include:
- Embracing challenges
- Courage
- Creativity
- Self-acceptance
- Persistence
- Resilience
- Positive attitude
- Compassion
- And so many more positive approaches to life!
Academics improve for students. Performance improves for athletes and musicians. Creativity blossoms in artists and performers. The struggles of everyday life become manageable, even viewed as springboards for improvement.
I want my five boys to know and use growth mindset skills. As a former mental health therapist, I’ve experienced the amazing effects of these skills on boosting one’s functioning and relationships. As a mama, I need to know that my boys will have what it takes to not just survive but thrive in our modern world.
Wonderful Ways to Use These Growth Mindset Copywork Pages with Kids
I’m always looking for new and creative ways to help my boys learn and master these concepts. We’ve enjoyed using our growth mindset resources like hands-on cootie catcher, coloring activities, and conversation cube.
I wanted to take our growth mindset lessons to the next level. As I’ve learned about mindset and how it affects functioning, I discovered some powerful quotes from famous individuals. I knew that my boys (and other kids, too!) could benefit from reading and memorizing these growth mindset quotes.
My boys have been working on these growth mindset copywork pages in our homeschool morning time. My older boys will often complete one page in a sitting. My younger boys spread out their copywork over two or three days. In the end, they all have beautiful keepsakes with growth mindset themes!
You’ll notice that each copywork page has four different areas. Your kids will:
- Say It:Â Â Read or repeat the quote aloud. Take it slow and let the words and message sink in.
- Trace It:Â Â Using a pencil or other writing utensil, trace the letters for each word of the quote.
- Write It:Â Â Kids are provided with dotted lines to record the quote in their very best handwritng.
- Draw It:  After saying, tracing, and writing, have your child to draw what this quote means to them. Remind your child that their drawing doesn’t have to be perfect but do encourage their best work 🙂
To add a touch of creativity and fun, allow your child to use different colors for letters and/or words. My boys love to use these writing utensils for their growth mindset copywork-maybe your kids will, too!
