This Mardi Gras word search is such a fun way to help kids learn about this interesting holiday! It's totally free to print out, and you can use it in so many different ways to get your kids excited about celebrating.
Kids love hands-on activities (my own kiddos can't resist a good puzzle!), and what better way to get them interested in Mardi Gras than with a word search? Once they start looking for these words, they'll have tons of questions about what they mean.

Why We Love Using Word Searches to Learn About Mardi Gras
You know what's great about word searches? Kids are having so much fun, they don't even realize they're learning! They're getting better at spotting patterns, picking up new words, and sticking with a task until it's done.
When you mix that with all the fun stuff about Mardi Gras, it's a win-win. My kids always want to know what words like "flambeaux" mean when they find them, and before you know it, we're having amazing conversations about Mardi Gras traditions.
I actually started making these printables last year with some Mardi Gras color by number page. My boys had such a blast with those that I knew we needed more fun stuff to do. That's why I decided to make this word search and add some new coloring pages, too!

Fun Ways to Use Your Word Search
Sure, word searches are fun on their own, but here are some ideas to make them even better:
- Pull out those fun writing tools - my kids go crazy for erasable pens, highlighters, and colored pencils. It's amazing how much more excited they get about an activity when they get to use special markers!
- Use these words for spelling practice during the week. It's so much more fun to practice spelling words that are connected to something exciting like Mardi Gras.
- Turn it into a word detective game! Have your kids look up words they don't know in a dictionary, write silly sentences with them, or even make up stories about Mardi Gras using their new words.
- Flip over the word search and use the back of the page to write sentences, doodle, and other DIY challenges (like crack the code, trivia, and more). It would be super cool to see what your kids come up with for masks and flambeaux!
- Make it more fun by working together - my boys love turning it into a friendly competition to see who can find the most words first!
