Learn More About These Art Color by Number Pages

This free printable set includes 6 art color by number worksheets (plus answer key and terms of use pages). At the top of each page, your student can record their name, date, and refer to color words to shade by number.

Each worksheet has a picture with sections of numbers to guide kids on which colors to use in that area. This activity provides practice with number recognition, color recognition, and color names! Big win for fine motor skills!

These coloring activities also give students opportunities on following instructions, using their creativity, and have a fun time while strengthening their hand muscles.

These 6 free printable art color by number activities have mystery pictures with themes of:

  • The word "ART" with colorful background
  • Open can of paint with paint brush
  • Three crayons
  • Variety of colorful pencils
  • Paint brush making swirl of paint
  • Tube of paint squirting out paint

Creative Tips for Enjoying These Coloring Activities

Gather your favorite coloring tools before beginning these art color-by-number activities. My boys like to use crayons, color pencils, and markers. For larger areas, they love using Kwik Stix (or other tempera paint sticks).

If you're working with younger students who may have difficulty reading the color words, underline or shade over that word with the correct color. This step makes it easier for your kids to complete the activity and helps them learn how to read color words.

Want to easily add a creative touch to these coloring activities? Make your own color by number code! Switch out the colors for different shades or use your favorites.

If you're working with a group of students (or would like a fun way to showcase your child's work), cut out the finished activity. Add to a poster board or bulletin board for a colorful display in your classroom, homeschool space, or hallway.

Use the backs of the pages to write down (or draw) how each of these color by number activities relate to art. For example, how do artists use paint in different ways to express themselves?

Another fun idea is to create your own art alphabet game on the back of a page. Make a list of all 26 letters of the alphabet. Then, think of art-related words that fit each letter.

Oh, and I highly recommend playing some music in the background as your kids work. Pick the music based on the mood or atmosphere that you'd like to set. Could you and your students use a little pick-me-up? Choose energizing, upbeat music. Need to calm down and relax? Pick soft, slow music.
