This fish handprint craft is a super fun and easy activity to enjoy with kids.

With only a few supplies, you'll be able to create cute handprint puppets. It's such a delightful project that can be used with the classic book by Dr. Seuss (One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish), for letter of the week fun, and much more.

I have a simple tutorial to share with you plus creative tips on making and enjoying with your young learners. Get ready to boost Dr. Seuss fun and learning!

Frugal Craft for Fun with Fish

Will you be reading the Dr. Seuss classic, One fish two fish red fish blue fish) with your students and want a frugal way to extend the learning? Or maybe you're getting ready for a fun Dr. Seuss Day or Read Across America celebration? Perhaps you'd like a creative way to help your kids enjoy a hands-on activity for Letter of the Week featuring "Ff"?

Well, this fish handprint craft is an affordable and easy way to do all of that and more!

The fish theme was a top ten pick in our homechool when my boys were little. We had a blast learning all about fish as part of our homeschool preschool fun, simple science, and Dr. Seuss celebrations.

To really get my boys engaged in our activities, I always like to include hands-on learning opportunities, as well as crafts. By including these things, I found that my boys were much better able to learn and remember concepts.

This fish handprint craft was such a big hit - and I hope your kids enjoy it, too! We made these fish paper crafts to use as puppets for my boys while I read aloud books featuring fish (like The Rainbow Fish). So many wonderful memories!

This DIY craft for kids only calls for a few materials. I love how easy and frugal this handprint activity is! If you'll be making this fish-inspired craft with multiple kids or a class, it's a good idea to make sure to have enough supplies (including extras!) for all.

I suggest that you have these supplies gathered and prepared for this craftivity:

  • Red and Blue Construction Paper
  • Popsicle Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Black Marker

  • washi tape (especially silver glitter if you're making The Rainbow Fish!)

How to Make These Fish Handprint Crafts

Trace hands

Trace the child’s handprint on one sheet of paper. Fingers should be medium-spaced.

Cut out hands

Stack sheets of paper together and cut out the handprints.

Draw on smile and eyes

Draw an eye and mouth on the palm of the handprint using the marker.

Glue the popsicle stick to the back.
