Easy Ways to Spark Holiday Learning Fun for Kids

As we start another holiday season in our homeschool, I like to look back on all the fun activities and themes that we've studied in the past few years.

Last year, we enjoyed cool activities with creative Christmas themes.

My boys and I have shared so many special times with our Christmas Fun Around the World studies and activities.

All of those fun holiday activities have been amazing ways for us to learn and grow together. Naturally, I want to continue that type of positive growth!

I decided that it's time for us to learn how other cultures and religions celebrate significant days (like Hanukkah). I want to help my boys (and myself) become more familiar with how these celebrations developed and the meaning behind them. I believe this type of learning helps facilitate empathy and other growth mindset skills 😊

This year, we'll be learning all about Kwanzaa. And I made these free Kwanzaa printables to share with you and your kids!

Creative Ideas for Enjoying These Kwanzaa Color by Number Pages

There are many benefits for kids to gain from working on color by number activities, like:

  • Improvement of muscle strength in hands
  • Boost to creativity
  • Enjoyment of low-stress creative activities
  • Completion of work and the great feeling that comes with it!

To gain these benefits, I suggest that you:

  • Collect all of your coloring utensils (like crayons, markers, color pencils, etc.) and make them available to your students.
  • Hang up the color by number printable pages when finished for all to look at and admire.
  • If you have enough time, make (or buy) some Kwanzaa treats. A snack can be a smart way to take a break in between coloring activities and introduce your students to new foods.
  • Look into different Kwanzaa activities that you can enjoy with your young students.

Fantastic Resources for Learning About Kwanzaa with Kids

I've found that books and videos are some of the best ways to learn about different holidays and cultures with my boys.

We'll be chatting about the 7 principles of Kwanzaa (Nguzo Saba), as well as the history of Kwanzaa:

  • Umoja (unity)
  • Nia (purpose)
  • Kujichagulia (self-determination)
  • Imani (faith)
  • Kuumba (creativity)
  • Ujima (collective work and responsibility)
  • Ujamaa (co-operative economics)
