Simple Ways to Celebrate Chinese New Year with Kids

Learning about how different countries and cultures celebrate holidays has been such an awesome adventure with my boys. I highly encourage you to do the same with your kids.

This year, we're adding a Chinese New Year unit study to our homeschool fun activities. We will work on this during our homeschool morning time. It's the one time of day that I know we'll all be together (and not scattered throughout our home doing independent work!).

I'll be sharing more about our unit study soon. Until that time, I have these free printable Chinese New Year color by number activities to share with you and your kids 🐲

  • Morning work

Your kids can practice many skills when working on color by number activities, like:

  • Boost to creativity
  • Benefits of low-stress creative activities

To gain these benefits for your children, I recommend that you:

  • Collect all of your coloring utensils (like crayons, markers, color pencils, etc.). Give your students the opportunity to select which tools they'd like to use. Another fun way to enjoy these color by number printables is to use water color paints and paint brushes.
  • Display the color by number printable pages when finished for all to look at and admire.
  • If you have enough time, make (or buy) some Chinese New Year treats. A snack or meal can be a smart way to take a break in between coloring activities and introduce your students to new foods.

Take some time to go over how a color by number code works. Explain how these color-by-number code mystery pictures will be revealed as you use different colors on these Chinese New Year-themed worksheets.
