Why I Loved Having a Go-To Ideas List for Toddler Fun

When my oldest was a toddler, I’ll be honestโ€ฆI didn’t have a clue what I was doing. I knew that I wanted to help him learn and grow. But, figuring out how to do that every single day felt overwhelming!

Having a simple list of go-to ideas made such a difference. It gave me direction, it sparked creativity, and it took away that “What should we do today?” stress.

By the time my youngest came along, life was busier than ever with five boys. But, I still wanted to make sure I was spending quality time with each of them. And I wanted that time to help with their development while strengthening our connection.

After a bit of brainstorming and research, I had a list of toddler activity ideas that I could feel good about. This collection of ideas meant that I could make the most of those moments, no matter how full our days were (or how tired I was!).

Fast forward to todayโ€ฆI look back on all of those precious times with such joy and gratitude. I created this Toddler Activity Ideas Calendar and Skills Checklist set with the hopes of giving you that same peace of mind and joy in your toddler years.

Why Having a Toddler Activity Plan Helps

When it comes to life with toddlers, a little bit of planning can make a big difference. And that planning doesn’t have to be rigid or “right or wrong”!

Simply having ideas to pull from can take the pressure off you. And it can help you get started when you feel like a deer in headlights (or like you need toothpicks to keep your eyelids open because you feel like you barely got any sleep last night).

Having a simple activity plan also:

  • Supports learning and development: Repeated exposure to new experiences can help toddlers build important skills over time.
  • Reduces decision fatigue: With ideas ready to go, you’re not scrambling to think of something on the spot (especially on those extra-busy days).
  • Encourages variety: It’s easy to fall back on the same activities, but a plan gives you fresh ideas to keep things interesting. Initially, I really struggled with variety. Taking time to brainstorm and use different activities really helped!

Think of this set of 360 toddler activity ideas in monthly calendars as your gentle guide. It’s there to inspire you and help you make the most of your time together.

How to Use Your Toddler Activity Ideas Calendar & Skills Checklist

There’s no “right” way to use this set. I made it to hopefully make your life easier, not add pressure. Use it however it works best for you and your little one. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Keep it visible: Hang the calendar on your refrigerator, bulletin board, or near your play area so you can glance at it whenever you need inspiration.
  • Pick what fits your day: Choose 1โ€“2 activities when you have time or skip a day when life is busy. The ideas are meant to be flexible.
  • Mix and match formats: Display the colorful version for a cheerful visual or use the black-and-white version to save ink.
  • Follow your toddler’s lead: If they’re excited about a certain type of activity, repeat it or add your own twist. These ideas are a springboard, not a strict plan.

Most importantly, enjoy the time together. Even a few minutes of focused play can create memories and boost your toddler’s development in big ways.
