Looking for a frugal and fun way to help your kids enjoy a winter activity? Maybe you'd like a simple project to boost creativity? Or perhaps you need a cool screen-free activity?
Well, this penguin popsicle stick craft is perfect for all of those things and more!
When all five of my boys were young (from toddler through kindergarten), I loved to organize educational activities to work on at home. To do so, I chose a variety of themes based on books, games, and their interests. Often, these themes coincided with our Letter of the Week fun.
The letter "Pp" was always a blast! Our activities would be filled with things like popsicles, popcorn, puppies, and pigs. Penguins, of course, were also top picks.
This penguin craft using popsicle sticks got bonus points (Penguin and Popsicle sticks). We would make extra penguin pals that felt like having our very own colony!

Simples Steps for Making This Penguin Craft
01
Prepare popsicle sticks
Color or paint four popsicle sticks black for the body. Color one more black for the arms.
02
Attach 4 sticks for body
Flip the four over, and line them up side by side.
Cut a popsicle stick down until you have two segments. Each one should lay crosswise across all four black sticks, without sticking out on the sides.
Glue the cross pieces across all four sticks, to secure them together.
03
Prepare paper pieces
Cut out two foot shapes and a triangular beak from the orange paper. Also cut a white half-oval for the belly.
04
Add paper pieces and googly eyes
Glue the belly to the front bottom center of the penguin’s body. Glue the feet at the bottom, on top of the belly.
Glue the beak to the head, and two googly eyes above that.
05
Attach popsicle stick flippers
Cut the last black stick in half, and glue to either side of the penguin on the back. These sticks are the flippers.

Another interesting thing to do is to brainstorm different colors and patterns. Your child could have a pink or purple penguin! Also, will your penguin friend have accessories (like scarf or jewelry)?
Also, don't forget to name your penguins! Think of "P" names (like Pete or Pauline) or go with something totally original.
Boost your learning time by using your penguin craft as a drawing or creative writing prompt. Your students can write (or draw) a story about their winter friend.
