Frugal Way to Boost Your Celebration with Kids
Are you looking for an affordable and simple activity to enjoy with your children for New Year's Eve? Maybe you're planning and preparing for a birthday party and want DIY decorations and party favors? Or perhaps you want to boost homeschool music time with homemade instruments?
Well, this noisemaker craft is a frugal and easy-to-make option for all of those things and many more!
Parties and celebrations can look a bit different when you have kids. I'm a typical introvert and prefer at-home ways to ring in the new year. And I've always like to find ways to get my boys involved in all of the fun with our family.
In addition to our free printable activities (like New Year's Eve bingo, color by number pages, and word scramble), I made sure to have a few hands-on projects to keep my boys busy. We play with balloons, make party poppers, homemade playdough, and enjoy crafts, like this DIY noisemaker.
Over the years, we've made all sorts of versions of these noisemakers. Lots of different colors, sizes, and sparkles! I wanted to share this idea with you, in case you could use some inspiration for fun ways to add a homemade touch to your New Year's Eve, party, or rainy day fun.

- other colors of washi tape (or painter's tape)
- buttons
- tempera paint sticks (like Kwik Stix)
- markers
- pony beads
- small wood beads
How to Make This Noisemaker Craft for Kids
01
Prepare stick
Wrap the popsicle stick with the washi tape and then trim around the edges to retain the popsicle stick shape.
02
Add bell to stick
Fit the end of the popsicle stick inside the jingle bell. Add glue to make it bell stay.
03
Add bell to stick
Wrap strips of pipe cleaners around the jingle bell so they splay outward like fireworks.
Optional: Secure the pipe cleaners with glue.
You can make your noisemakers bigger by using larger wood craft sticks, jingle bells, and pipe cleaners. Also, you can add additional jingle bells to the ends of the pipe cleaners.
