Why Learning About Christmas in Russia in Meaningful to Our Family

As my boys and I began to put together our plans for a Christmas Fun Around the World study, we knew that Russia would be on the list. We’ve enjoyed learning about this country in our homeschool and have personal reasons for wanting to know more.

When I was graduating high school, I got the amazing news that my aunt and uncle were going to adopt. I only had two older cousins and always wished for more. Our entire family was so excited!

Soon, I discoverd that my aunt and uncle would be going to Russia to adopt a little girl. After waiting for what felt like an eternity (and was really only about six weeks), I got to meet my new cousin. She captured all of our hearts 🙂

About a year later, we found out the same aunt and uncle were returning to Russia to adopt again. This time, we celebrated the addition of two more girl cousins!

Over the years, I’ve wanted to learn more about the country my cousins were born in. College, grad school, career, and then life as a mom kept me busy. Now, I’m thrilled to find out more about Christmas in Russia with my boys.
