A Sweet Activity for Donut Fun with Kids
Donuts have become a bit of a thing in our homeschool. And it all started with one of my boys who can’t get enough of silly donut puns. Seriously, he cracks himself up every time he says something like “Donut worry, be happy!”. He’s so darn sweet when he says his donut puns!
Over the years, we’ve had a blast with our free printable donut coloring pages, bookmarks, and donut-themed books. After sharing our watermelon stamp craft that uses a pool noodle, I remembered this super fun donut painting activity that uses a similar process.
This DIY donut stamp project is one of my favorites because it checks all the boxes:
- Low-prep
- Budget-friendly
- Totally customizable
- Full of creative possibilities
Whether your kids want to go classic with chocolate and rainbow sprinkles or dream up their own wild donut creations (like glitter sprinkles!), this craft is such a fun way to dive into hands-on art with big smiles all around.

How to Make This Donut Stamp Craft
Prep the Donut Stamps.
Have an adult cut the pool noodle into 1-2 inch thick slices to create donut-shaped stamps. Dip the flat side of a pool noodle slice into brown paint. Stamp it several times on white paper to create donut shapes. Allow time to dry.

Add sprinkles.
Dip Q-tips into different paint colors and dot the tops of the donuts to create fun, colorful sprinkles. Set the artwork aside to dry completely.

Creative Ways to Use Your Donut Painting Craft
Want to take this sweet activity to the next level? Here are some playful and educational ideas to stretch the fun:
- Pair with a Read-Aloud: Enjoy a donut-themed book like If You Give a Dog a Donut or Arnie, the Doughnut before or after crafting.
- Create a Donut Display: Hang your painted donuts on a bulletin board or wall. You could give your donuts fun names, too.
- Use for Writing Prompts: Have kids pick their favorite donut creation and write a silly story, description, or even a “recipe” to go with it.
- Make a Donut Garland or Banner: Cut out the painted donuts and string them together for festive decor. Perfect for a party or just because!
- Turn Into Cards or Tags: Use your DIY donuts for handmade cards or gift tags. Add donut puns (like you can find on our donut bookmarks).
- Practice Sorting and Patterns: Encourage younger kids to stamp donuts in color patterns. Also, you can sort them by “flavors” to sneak in a little learning.
- Celebrate National Donut Day: Plan this activity as part of a themed day! (It’s usually the first Friday in June!)

Frequently Asked Questions About This Donut Stamp Craft
This craft is great for preschool through early elementary ages. Older kids (and even adults!) can totally join in the fun. It’s super simple but allows for plenty of creativity.
A pool noodle works best for the stamp shape. In a pinch, you could try using a cut-up paper towel roll or even a sponge cut into a circle. Just be sure it’s something that holds its shape when dipped in paint and will resemble a donut.
Use paper plates for paint trays and cover your workspace with newspaper or a reusable tablecloth. Aprons or old t-shirts help protect clothing, too.
No problem! You can use the end of a paintbrush, your fingertip, a cotton ball, or even the eraser end of a pencil to add sprinkles.
