I love making and sharing creative ways to make reading a book fun for my boys -especially FREE ways!

We have a lot of books in and out of use in our homeschool And we found ourselves using random things (like napkins, paper clips, and Pokemon cards) to mark our places (even just a fold down of a page's corner - "dog ear").

Well, I decided it was time to start using some actual bookmarks! To get my boys interested and excited in this endeavor, I knew that I'd need themes that they enjoy.

Bear (boy #4) jokes all the time about donuts (or doughnuts, as he likes to point out the spelling variation). He comes up with some silly puns! I even find little notes and reminders on my grocery list to buy donuts.

These donut bookmarks come in a free printable set that includes five styles on one PDF page. The bookmarks are created for coloring fun and are in black-and-white (to make it easy on your printer!).

Each bookmark has donut themes with punny and positive reading messages, like:

Creative Ideas for Making and Using These Printable Bookmarks

Oh my stars! I'm so excited to share these easy and creative ways to enjoy these bookmarks.

I suggest printing these bookmarks on white cardstock for improved durability. Also, consider laminating the printables after your child has finished coloring and customizing. If you prefer to print on regular white printer paper, it's a smart idea to glue your bookmark onto plain or decorative cardstock (which can also be a cute frame!).

I LOVE to use glitter gel pens on my bookmarks. I love how shimmery and shiny it makes the themes look! My boys prefer having a selection of other coloring tools, like color pencils, crayons, and fine-tip markers.

An brilliant idea is to also use washi tape on the backs of the bookmarks to reinforce. Washi tape strengthens the bookmark, as well as adds a pattern or texture (like glitter washi tape).

Another way to accessorize your bookmark is to punch a hole in the top of the bookmark. Add a ribbon or piece of colored twine or yarn.
