It's incredible how such a simple thing like a scavenger hunt can be such a cool learning tool. Your kids will have a blast with this type of activity AND learn a lot in the process.

The Institute for Educational Advancement shares a few of the benefits of scavenger hunts for kids. I love how these activities help kids practice positive skills, like growth mindset and more.

My boys LOVE scavenger hunts! As I was updating our list of fun ideas for Earth Day (like our printable Earth Day challenge and Earth Day cootie catcher) this year, I decided to add this one to our collection.

Creative & Simple Ways to Boost This Earth Day Activity

This scavenger hunt with Earth Day themes involves your children coloring in the objects when seen or found. I suggest having a variety of coloring tools to pick from, like crayons, color pencils, and fine-tip markers.

I also recommend printing this Earth Day scavenger hunt on white cardstock. Regular printer paper will work fine - my boys, however, get excited when doing this type of activity and have a tendency to accidentally rip the paper 😉. Maybe your kids are the same way?

If you'd like to use this scavenger hunt again and again, you can laminate it or place in a dry erase sleeve.

Your kids might find it easier to use a clipboard as they go around and search for these Earth Day items.

Another great way to boost the fun is to give your children this scavenger hunt a few days before the special day (April 22). Encourage them to look for and record what they find - and to add tally marks if they find an item more than once.

If your kids are learning to read (or you want to reinforce spelling of Earth Day-themed words), write each word on this list on a sticky note or index card. Hide the words around the room or your home. Then, send your kids off on a search for the words to spell, read, and record!

You'll find it an easy way to enjoy outdoor activities as you learn about taking care of the Earth, importance of recycling, environmental issues, and more with kids of all ages.
