Math Fun Really Can Be Easy!
Is math one of those subjects that you think has to be dry and boring?
If your math experience growing up felt like that, it's easy to understand why.
Learning and practicing math concepts with only books and worksheets can be tiresome.
The good news is that you can make math fun with creative resources!
Games are fantastic ways to get kids engaged and excited about math (and other subjects).
And the even better news is that those games don't have to be expensive or complicated.
Simple hands-on games provide your kids with amazing opportunities for learning and practicing math concepts.
This free Snakes and Ladders game is an example of one of those simple math games that you can easily add to your learning fun collection 🙂
How to Play This Snakes and Ladders Game
You'll find printed instructions in this free printable pack (just scroll to end of the post to subscribe and get started).
But, I wanted to give you a glimpse of what this simple game entails and how you can enjoy it with your kids.
First, you'll need to print out the game board. I recommend using white cardstock for durability.
You may also want to laminate the game board to help it last even longer 😉
This game requires a 6-sided die (that you can use from another board game you have or a pack of dice like this one).
Each player needs a game piece. (We often use small plastic toys, coins, or mini-erasers).
All players place their game pieces on the first square.
Pick a player to roll first (we usually let youngest player have those honors). Take turns rolling the die and moving game pieces.
If a player lands on a ladder square, he or she moves up the ladder.
If a snake's head is landed on, the player must move his game piece down.
The first player to land on the last square (35) wins the game.
This simple math game is great for counting and basic game-playing skills (like taking turns, patience, and being a good sport).
Creative Ideas for Enjoying This Snakes And Ladders Game
Want to make this Snakes and Ladders game even more fun? Here are a few ideas for boosting your play:
- Use fun game pieces. Let your kids think outside the box. Playdough balls, mini-erasers, and Lego pieces work well. Other small game pieces could be coins, candy, and pebbles.
- Encourage your kids to read the number aloud (number recognition) and spell the number word.
- Your kids can also add the number of spaces moved (forwards or backwards).
- If you're studying a foreign language, practice saying the numbers in that language.
- Play soft music in the background for a relaxed atmosphere. (Or pump it up with some fresh beats!)
