Why Middle School Learning Feels Different
When my boys hit middle school, it felt like crossing into a brand-new stage of homeschooling. The work wasn’t just a little harder. It was a lot more in-depth.
Subjects, like math and science, required more time and explanation. Writing assignments stretched longer. At the same time, my kids wanted more independence (which is awesome!). For each boy, it’s felt like this push-pull thing to sort out.
And, oh my stars! The emotions get bigger, too. With hormones in full swing, some days felt like smooth sailing while others felt like a tsunami.
I’ve learned that having reliable, easy-to-use resources makes a huge difference. My youngest is now a middle schooler. I needed tools to save me time, keep lessons engaging, and help him build confidence as the workload grows.
How We Found Our 6th Grade Groove with Education.com
You’d think that by boy #5 I’d have this whole middle school homeschool thing down. But as I’ve learned with five boys, each one is different. Each boy has their own personalities, learning preferences, and interests.
Xman, my youngest (now 11), started 6th grade this year. He’s been homeschooled from the beginning and does well. Over the summer, we talked about his strengths (math and science) and his biggest challenge (writing). Together, we decided to try IXL.
Within a few weeks, I knew it was a great choice. Xman thrives with the online program because it offers the perfect mix of challenge and support. I felt so relieved, but I still had one concern. Since we live in Pennsylvania, we’re required to show proof of progress in homeschool portfolios. I like having written work I can print, file, and share with our evaluator. Plus, I believe written practice is an important balance to screen-based learning.
That’s when I remembered how Education.com complements IXL. After exploring the site, I knew I’d found the perfect place for 6th grade worksheets for our homeschool. These printable resources are practical, engaging, and a perfect complement to what we’re already doing.
The Best 6th Grade Worksheets & Educational Games for Homeschool
So far, we’ve tried worksheets for math, science, social studies, and reading. My son (who usually prefers computer work) has actually enjoyed using the printables.
For math, he told me, “Now that it’s getting harder, I have to write out my work more. I like using the worksheets a lot more than my boring notebook.” That’s a big win in my book!
In science, the worksheets have been great companions to videos and online questions. As he put it, “They make it easier to understand what’s going on.” I greatly appreciate having that written reinforcement to help him connect the dots.
This year, we agreed to focus on building his reading comprehension and writing skills. Instead of me scrambling to figure out what to assign, we’ve found excellent choices through Education.com’s reading worksheets.
He chose Holes by Louis Sachar (a favorite with his older brothers). Much to my surprise, he’s eagerly reading, completing the discussion guide questions, and using the graphic organizers. We plan to watch the movie together to compare and contrast. All of this excitement from the same boy who used to flop on the floor in protest when I mentioned language arts!
From my perspective, Education.com makes it so easy to find what we need. I love the filter option. I just plug in the subject and grade level and a variety of engaging worksheets pop up. And when he needs quick extra practice, I can use the search bar to find the perfect worksheet in seconds. It’s been such a time-saver for our homeschool.
How Education.com Makes Homeschooling Easier
One of the biggest reasons I recommend Education.com is how much easier it makes my homeschool days. The print-and-go worksheets mean I don’t waste time hunting for materials or creating assignments from scratch. And at just around $5 a month (with the 55% off Premium Membership – use code EDCOM55), it’s an affordable resource.
The variety is another huge win. Middle school resources can be tough to find. But, Education.com has over 38,000 educator-created resources so we’re never stuck with the same old boring sheets. Some worksheets even have interactive options so you can complete online, then print as a PDF. It’s such a neat way to combine the feel of a worksheet with the convenience of online work.
I also love the extra features. With the Build a Worksheet tool, lets you create your own word scrambles, word searches, math worksheets, and more. It’s an easy way to customize learning and keep it fresh.
Oh, and there are the educational games! There are so many options for PreK through 8th grade. Xman will be working through the typing games this year. And I’ve bookmarked a few to pair with his worksheets (like the 6th grade coordinate plane games).
It’s like having a one-stop place for keeping homeschool engaging without extra stress.
From Kindergarten Worksheets to 8th Grade Success
Another thing that I appreciate about Education.com is that it grows with your child. When my boys were younger, I would have loved having access to such a wide range of kindergarten worksheets. There’s everything from early reading and handwriting practice to fun seasonal activities and middle school projects.
With one subscription that supports k-8 education, I could have saved so much time and stress back then. It’s such an incredible tool for families teaching multiple kids! Instead of bouncing between different sites or buying separate programs, you can find everything in one place.
It’s also nice knowing that as my homeschool changes, Education.com is flexible enough to keep up. If you need a quick refresher in math, a creative writing prompt, or science activity, you’ll find it here. Now that Xman is in middle school, I’m grateful for the same level of support at higher grade levels.
