Cupcake Liner Christmas Tree: How to Make This Frugal Craft

This cupcake liner Christmas tree craft is a cute and frugal activity to enjoy with kids for holiday fun.
Using only a few supplies, this DIY project is easy to customized plus can be used in a variety of ways. My boys and I have had a blast making it for Christmas fun, especially for holiday decor and hands-on activities.

Frugal Activity for Delightful Holiday Fun with Kids
If you'd like to make this Christmas merry and bright for your children but need to be careful with your pennies, this frugal craft is the way to go. It's a lovely and creative project for a screen-free activity, holiday party, or community event?.
I absolutely love how this Christmas craft uses a minimum of three supplies and can be made relatively mess-free.
It's always nice to have hands-on ways to help your students focus during the holiday season. When you can find a craft that's affordable and helps you make adorable decorations that are totally customizable, you know you have a great idea to work with.
As part of our Christmas homeschool fun activities, this cupcake liner craft has been a huge hit with my boys. Over the years, we've tweaked this project and I'm super excited to share the different ways that we've made our final projects extra special plus my ideas for incorporating your DIY trees into holiday learning fun.
Suggested Supplies for This Cupcake Liner Craft
With just a few materials, you'll be able to get started with making these easy Christmas crafts. If at all possible, I highly recommend that you use glue sticks to keep this project as mess-free as possible (who needs a big mess during the holidays?!?).
This supply list includes the basic requirements for the craft (the first three) and my ideas for taking it to the next level with customizations:
- Cupcake Liners (green if you want to keep simple)
- Popsicle Sticks
- Glue (glue sticks are smart choices!)
- Pom poms
- Sequins
- Small stickers
- Glitter
- Glitter glue
- Kwik Stix (if you'd like add color, especially to the popsicle stick - without the mess of paint)
- Washi tape

How to Make This Cupcake Liner Christmas Tree Craft

Fold cupcake liners
Fold three cupcake liners in half and flatten.

Fold the cupcake liners again
Fold one side to the center on all three.

Fold one cupcake liner to center
For one cupcake liner only, fold the other side to the center as well.

Add bottom cupcake liner
Starting with the bottom, glue on one of the larger cupcake liners.

Add the top two cupcake liners
Overlap the next big one slightly, then glue the smaller one to the top.

Add pom poms (or other decorations)
Optional: Glue the pom poms in various places across the tree.

Ideas for Using Your Christmas Cupcake Liner Craft
I've got some great news about this craft. You can keep it simple and have a fantastic final product. OR you can easily customize it to add a creative twist.
What type of Christmas tree would you like to have? If you'd like a traditional look, go with green. Either use green cupcake liners (with or without patterns) or paint to get your desired style. Want to be a bit more bold? Go with alternative colors, like white, pink, silver, or even rainbow!
Think outside of the box with your decorations. Add pom poms, stickers, sequins, or small jingle bells. Glitter or glitter glue can also add a sweet touch of sparkle to your project.
Make several cupcake liner Christmas trees. Link with a piece of ribbon, string, or yarn for an amazing garland.
Attach your cupcake liner tree to a card for an interesting effect and cool DIY gift.
