No-Prep Creative Fun for Your Harry Potter Fans
Our family has a slight Harry Potter obsession.
Okay, to be honest, we're full out Potterheads.
In fact, when the new Wizards Unite app recently came out, we immediately tried it out. The boys and I had a blast setting up our Wizard Passports where we plugged in our Hogwarts House, wand, and check achievements. We're also logging some extra steps as we're out and about tracking down Foundables and practicing spells.
All this awesome Harry Potter-Inspired fun had me thinking about new ways to enjoy this series and its themes with my boys.
As Smiley was doodling in his journal one afternoon, he asked me about learning how to draw some of the characters and creatures from Harry Potter.
Well, I'm not an artist by any means. But, I do love to make printables for easy, no-prep ways to make learning fun with my boys 🙂
Smiley helped me design these Harry Potter-Inspired Grid Art activities to work on lines and proportions. Our next project for grid art with Harry Potter-Inspired themes will be in color! (We'll be releasing that version very soon!)
Awesome Ideas for Enjoying These Harry Potter-Inspired Grid Art Activities
To make the most of your time with these grid art activities, have these basic supplies ready. Smiley suggests:
- Pencils
- Good eraser (not the kind that leaves smudges or puts a hole in your work)
- Ruler (optional but can help you space out objects and lines)
- Color pencils
- Markers
- Crayons
- Patience* (Smiley says it's important to be patient with yourself and not give up, even when it seems tough. Sometimes, he has to take some deep breaths and walk away from his project for a few minutes if he gets too frustrated. Wise words from one so young!)
During our grid art activities, we emphasize fun and experience over perfection. We loved listening to our Harry Potter audiobooks while working on our projects. Or you could put on some of your favorite music to enjoy in the background 🙂
If you'd like to extend your Harry Potter-Inspired learning fun, these grid art activities pair well with our free printables such as:
