The curriculum is rooted in the work of Dr. Ruth Beechick, a beloved educator whose book A Home Start in Reading was hugely influential in the homeschooling movement. I found her approach (and her book, The Three R’s) extremely helpful when I was starting out. Knowing this program is built on that foundation gave me even more confidence in it.
The Blue Book is designed for first grade and takes a warm, integrated approach. Instead of treating phonics, spelling, and grammar as separate subjects, they’re woven together through great books and meaningful lessons.

I’ve used several types of early readers with my boys and this set rocks. Also, having the readers provided means one less thing to track down or purchase separately. Such a thoughtful touch!
