Coloring bookmarks have been big hits in our home. We now have a whole collection of these DIY reading accessories. These bookmarks are used for our homeschool time, reading for pleasure, and to share with family and friends.

My boys LOVE their Pokemon, Super Mario, and Minecraft sets of bookmarks. As they were working on cards to send to my parents, they decided that they needed some bookmarks with a theme that she would love. After a chatting about the possibilities, it was decided that cat bookmarks would be cool.

My mom and dad have two rescue cats (Tiger and Rocky) that they got at the same time. Although they aren't related (Tiger is an orange-and-white cat and Rocky is black-and-white), they act like brothers. And we often chuckle over their crazy cat antics!

Both my mom and dad are avid readers (in addition to their love for feisty felines). My boys can't wait to mail them these super cute cat coloring bookmarks!

Smart Ways to Make These Kitten Bookmarks

I highly recommend printing your coloring bookmarks on white cardstock. The boys and I have discovered that this material is the best pick for durability. If you want to improve durability even more, laminate (with laminator or with self-adhesive laminating sheets) your coloring bookmarks.

My mom gave us a great set of glitter gel pens and I absolutely love these coloring tools! My boys also like to use fine-tip markers and color pencils.

You can also strengthen your bookmarks with washi tape. I pick a glitter one or cool pattern that coordinates with the theme. My boys stick with more basic colors. Simply use lengths of the washi tape on the backs of your bookmarks. Trim off any access.

Also, we often use a hole punch at the top of the bookmark. Then, we add a ribbon or piece of colored twine or yarn through the hole for extra customization.
