Simple Way to Get Excited About Your Elf
Does your family (or class) have an elf on the shelf?
When I first heard of this trend when my boys were younger, I admit that I cringed. There's enough to do during the holiday season and a new tradition wasn't on the top of my list.
Well, my mom was still teaching Kindergarten and got an elf for her classroom. And for our family. Gulp!
Of course, my boys were super excited! My older two boys were still in public school and their librarian had one with all sorts of zany surprises for the kids.
After reading our The Elf on the Shelf book, we were faced with the task of naming our new friend. Professor (boy #2) was adamant about the name "Zylar". The others thought it was cool so we went with it.
When I told his first grade teacher (also a dear friend of mine) the name, she chuckled and said, "Z.Y.L.A.R. is what I write on the board when I want my students to Zip Your Lips And Read!" 😂
We've now had Zylar visit our home every Christmas season for the past 13 years. Zylar isn't as crazy as some of his scout elf friends. But, it's still a fun thing to share with my boys.
A few days ago on a nature walk, Zylar came up in our conversation. I was reminded that I wanted to make a few printable activities featuring elf on the shelf to add to our Christmas Fun collection. So, here's a new word search to enjoy!
