Easily Add a Creative Touch to Your Valentine's Day Cards

I have five boys. And in this house, that means that anything pink, purple, or "lovey dovey" (to quote my youngest) is not in favor.

Sometimes this mama just needs to enjoy some things that she really loves!

So, I decided to start making and sharing some themes that my boys have never expressed interest in - like unicorns and mermaids.

Well, you could pick my chin off the ground when my younger boys actually wanted to join in the fun with our unicorn perler bead craft templates and mermaid activity sheets!

Although they weren't jumping up and down to work on these activities, they had fun doing something with mom - and sharing her enthusiasm.

With Valentine's Day coming up, I decided that some coloring cards would be a cool addition to our holiday fun. And that I could make some cards to give to my boys 🥰️

I'm going with a mermaid theme because, well, I think they're adorable. And I know that my boys will get a kick out of the mermaid + Valentine's Day puns on them!

Creative Ideas for Making and Enjoying These Coloring Cards

Before I get to my ideas for taking these mermaid Valentine's Day cards to the next level, I want to share a few tips to make this experience as enjoyable as possible.

I recommend printing these cards on white cardstock. This step provides extra durability.

Also, I suggest that you gather your writing and coloring tools. Your students will appreciate having different ways to color and customize their Valentine's Day cards with:

• crayons
• color pencils
• erasable pens
• fine-tip markers
• Kwik Stix (especially the metallic ones for a shimmery effect!)
• scissors (to cut out the cards)

Your kids may want to put mermaid-themed washi tape on the back of their cards to reinforce and for decoration.

Chat with your kids about these mermaid cards. Talk to them about the messages on each card and which card might be best for each friend and family member.

Your kids also might want to make their own mermaid Valentine's Day cards. They can either trace these cards or draw their own designs.

If your kids are really into mermaids, they may want to make a mermaid-themed Valentine's Day box!
