Add a Cute DIY Touch to Your Halloween Fun

Are you looking for a simple yet fun Halloween activity to enjoy with your kids? Maybe you'd like frugal way to add to your Halloween decorations? Or perhaps you need a quick craft to make during a Halloween party?

Well, this adorable yarn-wrapped mummy craft is perfect for all of those things and more!

As my boys get older, I find myself looking back at fun activities that we've enjoyed in our homeschool, especially for holidays. Our holiday events and poetry teatimes have been wonderful occasions with delightful shared memories.

Halloween has been one of our favorite celebrations. We've made yummy Halloween treats, played games, and made simple crafts, like this DIY mummy craft!

You only need a few materials for this easy Halloween craft. The mummy's body is wrapped in yarn for a mummy-like look and the face is finished off with googly eyes.

How to Make This Yarn-Wrapped Mummy Craft

Prepare template

Print the template provided at the bottom of this post and cut it out.

Make the mummy body

Trace the template onto the black paper with white crayon (or pencil) and cut it out.

Add googly eyes

Attach googly eyes to the face. You can use white glue, hot glue gun, or self-adhesive googly eyes with peel off backs.

Start your yarn wrapping

Use double-sided tape to stick one end of the yarn to the cutout. Wrap the yarn around the mummy until it covers the entire cutout - except the eyes.

Complete the yarn wrapping

Stick the other end of the yarn to the wrapped mummy to secure it.

Ideas for Making and Using Your DIY Mummy Crafts

I love how you can use these simple mummy crafts in all sorts of ways for holiday fun. Here are a few ideas for enjoying with your kids.

Easily customize your DIY mummies by using markers or glitter glue. Instead of black paper or white yarn, consider using different colors.

Make multiple mummies and create a banner that you can hang along a wall, on a fireplace mantle, or above a door.

Create several mummies and attach to Halloween party bags, hand out to trick or treaters, and add to Halloween cards.

With extra mummies, you can play a DIY scavenger hunt. Hide the mummies around a room or one level of your home. Play music and see who can find the most!

Adhere a magnet to the back of your mummy craft. Use to add some cute Halloween decor to your refrigerator or white board.

Place a mummy or two in a Halloween-themed wreath. You can also place in a Halloween centerpiece!
