Enjoy Out of this World DIY Reading Fun!

Do you have kids who love all things outer space? Or maybe you just got done enjoying a movie or book with space themes?Perhaps you want some easy and frugal ways to boost your reading time, party, or rainy day fun?

Well, you'll love these super cute space bookmarks to color!

I've been sharing all the free printable coloring bookmarks (like Super Mario, Pokemon, and Minecraft) that my boys and I have been enjoying. We wanted to add to our bookmark collection (like our Harry Potter and Star Wars sets).

All of those themes have been amazing ways to get us excited about reading and keep our places in our books. We decided that we also needed some simple themes, like frogs, unicorns, and mermaids. And a space theme was one of our top choices!

Learn All About These Space Bookmarks

This free printable set of space coloring bookmarks is on one page (PDF format). All bookmarks are in black-and-white for your children (and you!) to color and customize.

Each bookmarks has space themes and positive reading messages, like:

  • Land on a good book (with astronaut on asteroid with stars and planet)
  • Reading is out of this world (alien in spacecraft with planets, stars, asteroid, and a comet)
  • Reading is space-tacular (with sun, stars, planets, moons, and alien in spacecraft)
  • I'm over the moon for the books (with planets, stars, asteroid, and comet)
  • Reading is a blast (rocket with planets and stars)

Creative Ways to Make These Coloring Bookmarks

I recommend printing these bookmarks on white cardstock for improved durability. Laminating the bookmarks (after your child is done coloring and customizing) can also help increase durability and prevent damage (like spills or tears).

When I make my bookmarks, I use glitter gel pens. I love seeing the shiny, shimmery effects. My boys prefer using color pencils and fine-tip markers.

Another way to reinforce your reading accessories is to use washi tape on the backs. This step strengthens the bookmark, as well as adds an interesting pattern or texture (like glitter washi tape).

Ready to take your bookmark to the next level? Use a hole punch in the top of the bookmark and add a ribbon or piece of colored twine or yarn. My youngest added a paperclip!

Ideas for Using and Sharing These Space Coloring Bookmarks

Your kids can make these bookmarks for their own reading pleasure and to share with their friends and loved ones. We've used our creations for gift tags, DIY magnets (just add a magnetic strip to the back), and silly surprises (like under a plate or napkin).
