I recently shared these free printable unicorn bookmarks (and why I've been having so much reading fun with them). I've always had a love of unicorns and it's so cool sharing that interest with my boys (and you!).
Another mythical creature that has been a source of interest for me since childhood has been a mermaid.
The classic fairytale of the The Little Mermaid captured my attention. When Disney released The Little Mermaid in 1989, I was hooked!
Of course, the more recent release of the movie had me fondly reliving those childhood memories.
My boys and I had such a good time with our free printable mermaid activity sheets (and mermaid Valentine's Day cards). Naturally, I want to add to that collection to keep the fun going!

This free printable set of mermaid coloring bookmarks is on one page (PDF format). All bookmarks are in black-and-white for your children (and you!) to color and customize.
Each bookmarks has unicorn themes and positive reading messages, like:

I strongly suggest that you print these bookmarks on white cardstock for improved durability. Laminating the bookmarks (after your child is done coloring and customizing) can be a fantastic additional step!
When I made my bookmarks, I used glitter gel pens. I adore how shimmery it makes the mermaids and their friends!
Your students may want to use other coloring tools, like color pencils and fine-tip markers. Crayons can work when they have a nice tip.
Another way to reinforce the bookmarks is to use washi tape on the backs. This step strengthens the bookmark, as well as adds a fun pattern or texture (like glitter washi tape).
Want to really take your bookmark to the next level? Use a hole punch in the top of the bookmark and add a ribbon or piece of colored twine or yarn.
