Fun & Frugal Project for Kids
I love finding a cute activity to enjoy with children that doesn't cost a bunch of money and results in a personalized final product. This thumbprint heart craft is both of those things and more!
When I became a mom, I knew that I wanted to find easy ways to help my kids become interested in creative activities. I wasn't quite sure how to go about it so I kept it simple and low-cost. I figured that even if I didn't have a background in education or training as a artist that I could still help my children benefit from these types of projects.
I tried all sorts of crafts and discovered that the ones that had a hands-on approach often worked best. This thumbprint heart claypot craft was one of their favorites - and it's been amazing to have their precious touches to look back on!
Suggested Supplies for This Personalized Craft
With only two materials and help by you, you can do this craft with any age. If you're working with babies or toddlers, I highly recommend that you have another person that can quickly wipe the paint off their thumbs. When working with preschoolers and older, it can be wonderful to have a wet washcloth or baby wipes to remove the paint.
To get started with this delightful project, make sure to have:
- Clay Pot
- Paint
- Paintbrush (or foam brush)

How to Make This Thumbprint Heart Claypot Craft
01
Paint claypot
Paint the clay pot the color of your choice. A pink or white base works great for Valentine’s Day. You can paint the entire pot one color or do two colors, as shown in photos. Allow time to dry.
02
Dip thumb into paint
Dip your child’s thumb in red paint. Press it firmly against the pot at a slight angle. Rotate the thumb to form a heart with the second thumbprint.
03
Dip thumb into paint
Repeat the second step to make several thumbprint hearts around the pot.
