Creative Ideas for Boosting the Fun with These Valentine’s Day Coloring Activities
Color by number activities can be so much fun!
These types of coloring activities might look a bit boring but your kids get the opportunity to work on a variety of skills while creating cool Valentine’s Day pictures.
With younger kids, you can help them read the color words. As you do, use that crayon (or other coloring tool) to lightly shade over that word. It will help your kids independently complete the activity which builds confidence.
Your children can also be encouraged to try different coloring textures or patterns. Or maybe challenge your kids to darkly color by the borders and lightly shade as they near the center.
If your kids are studying a foreign language, challenge them to translate the numbers and color words into that language.
All kids can either write or draw on the back of the pages to jot down their favorite things about Valentine’s Day.
If you have the budget and space, put out a variety of coloring tools for your children to use, like:
- markers (thin- or wide-tipped)
- color pencils
- Kwik Stix (or type of other tempera paint stick)
- chalk pastels
- oil pastels
- water color paints
Your kids may want to cut out their completed work and glue onto construction paper or cardstock (so have scissors, glue sticks, and paper available). If your kids choose this option, encourage them to decorate their work with a DIY frame out of washi tape, stickers, stamps, or heart cut-outs.
