Motivate Your Kids with These Fitness Fun Challenges

Can you raise your hand for any of these reasons?:

  • You've heard the phrase "I'm bored!" about 53 times in the past half hour.
  • Screen time has become an issue but you're not sure what to do to get your kids up and moving.
  • Your kids are bouncing off the walls with energy. You encourage them to find something to do but they're just wandering aimlessly around, annoying each other and you.
  • OR you wish your kids could go outside and run off all that energy but the weather isn't cooperating (too hot, wet, snowy, etc.)
  • You've run out of fun activities to do with your kids. You feel like your creativity has vanished.
  • You know it's important for your kids to get some exercise. But, how do you get them involved in physical activities without hearing them whine or complain?

If you can relate to any of the above situations, then I'm so glad that you're here 🙂

With five boys in our home, I know the importance of giving kids physical outlets for all that energy and excitement. Overall, my boys are sweet, helpful, and considerate. But, when they've been idle for too long, look out!

Kids NEED exercise. They need to move their bodies and get their blood pumping. KidsHealth shares these important benefits of fitness for kids, including improved sleep and physical health. Emotional well-being is another incredible benefit of exercise.

Oh, and my dad is a retired Physical Education/Health teacher. Growing up, I learned the importance of staying active at a young age 😉

So, what can you do to encourage fitness fun for kids?

Let's Enjoy Fun Physical Fitness for Kids!

Okay, I'll admit that I was desperate when I created this Fitness Fun for Kids Game & Activities.

We had been at home for I-lost-count number of days. Board games, puzzles, and crafts were NOT cutting it.

My boys and I needed some cool activities that had us moving and grooving.

I put on my creative "fun mom" hat and came up with this idea.

Cootie catchers have been popular hands-on fun. A roll-the-dice game seemed like a good pairing.

I combined the two for a Fitness-Fun-Cootie-Catcher-and-Roll-the-Dice Game.

Bear (9) pointed out that's a very long name so we shortened it to Fitness Fun 😉

Oh my stars! We've had a blast with these activities and challenges!

Your kids will love this unique way to have fitness fun. The cootie catcher part give it a hands-on touch.

A Free + Easy-to-Use + FUN Fitness Challenge for Kids

Bear is right. I need to work on shortening these names. Lol!

I wanted to give us a large number of fitness challenges to keep it interesting. Also, I hoped to include a variety of physical exercise areas for overall health.

This Fitness Fun for Kids Game & Activities includes 8 different categories with 48 prompts:

  • Core
  • Stretch
  • Dynamic
  • Charades
  • Balance
  • Dance
  • Arms
  • Challenge

Combining fun with fitness is key to keep kids motivated and coming back for more.

Another fantastic way to turn this printable fitness game into teaching moments with your kids is to use the categories as conversation starters. Ask your kids what they know about the above 8 categories + the 4 topics on the cootie catcher:

  • Strength
  • Health
  • Exercise
  • Hydrate

What does each of these words mean to your kids? How can they include these important things into their daily lives? What is their favorite way to ____? What is their least favorite way to ____?

Add your own fitness conversation starters to these questions and you'll have a fabulous physical education/health lesson!

This game and activity challenge cards are awesome ways to motivate your kids to have fitness fun.

Tips for Maximizing the Fun with This Fitness Game & Activities

I recommend that you print out the Roll-a-Dice Fitness Challenges on white cardstock. This step makes your cards more durable and easy to store.

Make sure you have one die to use. I picked up a pack of dice at Dollar Tree so we never run out 😉

To make your Fitness Fun Cootie Catcher, watch this video and follow these simple steps:

Please let me know in the comment area if you're not sure of other challenges and I'll add pictures with descriptions A.S.A.P. 🙂

In the video, I share how we use this game. Of course, make it your own and use it as you see fit!

My ideas for using this Fitness Fun Game are:

  1. Make your Fitness Fun Cootie Catcher.
  2. Print out the Fitness Challenge cards on white cardstock and cut out.
  3. Grab a die and get ready to roll!
  4. Select one of the 4 topics (STRENGTH, HEALTH, HYDRATE, EXERCISE).
  5. Manipulate the cootie catcher for each letter of that word. For example, if HEALTH is chosen, you'd move your cootie catcher a total of 6 times (H-E-A-L-T-H).
  6. Pick a number. Manipulate the cootie catcher that number of times.
  7. Choose another number.
  8. Open the cootie catcher and read the category.
  9. Find the challenge card that goes with the chosen category.
  10. Roll a die.
  11. Read the Fitness Fun challenge and perform that exercise, stretch, or activity.
  12. Repeat and HAVE FUN!

*As always, you know your kids best. Customize any of these moves/activities for your kids' ages and stages. If 4 push-ups are too much right now, modify. Try one. Or do a push-up using knees on the ground.

**If your kids struggle with these fitness challenges and feel frustration, use these opportunities to build a growth mindset. Physical exercises are wonderful opportunities to practice grit, persistence, and patience!

Motivate your kids to have fitness fun with this cool game and activity challenge cards.
