Axolotls + Bookmarks = Amazing Reading Fun!

Are you in need of some quick ways to get kids interested in reading? Or maybe you'd like some simple screen-free activities? Perhaps you want some frugal and easy ideas for rainy day fun?

These free printable axolotl bookmarks to color are totally awesome for all of those things and more!

I recently shared our free printable axolotl coloring pages. My boys were thrilled with these activities and asked for more ways to have fun with axolotls. Since they've had a blast with our free printable coloring bookmarks (like our Pokemon, Super Mario, and Minecraft sets), I knew that bookmarks were the way to go.

Why are my boys into axolotls? Minecraft! (Maybe your kids are fascinated by these underwater creatures, too?)

The boys were so happy when Minecraft added axolotls to the game. They had read about these fascinating amphibians (and how these Mexican axolotl salamanders can regenerate lost body parts) in one of their science books. When these interesting creatures were included in one of their favorite games, my boys were ecstatic.

This free printable set of axolotl coloring bookmarks includes five different styles on one page. All of these reading tools are designed to be colored and are in black-and-white.

Creative Ways to Make These Coloring Bookmarks

Get the most out of your axolotl coloring bookmarks by printing on white cardstock to improve durability. Also, I think it's smart to laminate the bookmarks after your student is done coloring and customizing.

Glitter gel pens are my go-to coloring tools for my bookmarks. The shimmery effects that these pens make are so cool! My boys prefer using fine-tip markers and color pencils.

Another easy idea for strengthening the bookmarks is to use washi tape. This step reinforces the bookmark by adding the washi tape to the back.

We like to use a hole punch at the top of the bookmark. Then, add a ribbon or piece of colored twine or yarn through the hole for an extra bit of decoration.
