Simple Solutions for Pi Day Fun with Students

Looking for quick and easy ways to celebrate Pi Day with your kids?

Or maybe you just need some print-and-go worksheets for math fun?

You'll love these Pi Day color by number activities!

For over 12 years, my boys and I have had a blast celebrating fun days in our homeschool. And one of our favorite fun days to enjoy together has been Pi Day 🎉

The symbol pi π is a mathematical way to represent the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter. It's an irrational number that's shown on a calculator as 3.141592654 (often seen as the digits of Pi 3.1416 and the fraction 22/7).

Last year, we used our free printable Pi Day fun activities pack to boost our celebration. This year, I've added these Pi Day color by number worksheets - and sharing them with you 😊

Creative Ideas for Boosting the Fun with These Activities

Want to take your Pi Day fun to the next level with these color by number pages? Here are a few things that I recommend:

  • Gather your coloring utensils (like crayons, markers, color pencils, etc.). Give your students the opportunity to select which tools they'd like to use.
  • Display the color by number printable pages when finished for all to look at and admire.
  • If you have time, make (or buy) some Pi Day treats. A simple snack (that's a circular food) can be a smart way to take a break in between coloring activities.

If you're working with a group of students, consider making a Pi Day bulletin board.

Practice creating the π symbol on the back of the worksheets in different colors and patterns. It's a fun way to learn this mathematical constant and extend the fun with these coloring pages.

Older students can write out the value of Pi, as well as think of other math art projects

A great Pi Day activity is to make a Pi Day paper chain and use a different color of construction paper for each digit of Pi. Small groups could compete and see who can get the most decimal places or longest chain (get out your tape measure!).

Ooh, another great activity is to use pony beads and pipe cleaner to make your own Pi bracelets.

Chat with your older kids about other fun Pi Day activities to enjoy. These types of Pi Day celebrations can build future math enthusiasts!
