Tips and Ideas for Enjoying these Handwriting Worksheets
Not sure how to make these writing activities fun for kids? Over the years, I've tried a bunch of different ways to boost handwriting fun in our homeschool.
These three ideas were the most popular and easiest ways to engage my boys when they were learning to identify and write print letters of the alphabet. I highly recommend demonstrating these ideas to your kids so they can feel more comfortable when working on their own.
- Hands-On Print Practice:
- With their pointer (index) finger, have your kids trace the print alphabet letters on paper.
- Practice tracing the print letters in the air. Use fingers, hands, even feet!
- Use materials like sand, shaving cream, slime, playdough, or pudding to "write" in on clean surfaces. And don't be surprised when your young learners ask to do this activity again and again!
- Paper:
- Print these free alphabet tracing worksheets with Christmas themes.
- Your students can use a variety of writing tools (like pencils, crayons, or fine-tip markers) to trace. Another way to add color is to use erasable pens (like our favorite-Frixion Erasable Pens) or color pencils.
- Make additional copies of these worksheets so you kids can practice as much as they need!
- As your kids continue to practice, encourage writing capital print letters and lower case letters to form a sentence. You may need to write a simple sample sentence for your students to copy.
- Dry Erase Markers:
- Great way to enjoy these Christmas handwriting worksheets for print practice again and again!
- Dry erase markers are smooth and easy for kids to make corrections.
- You can laminate these alphabet tracing worksheets.
- OR place a printable worksheet in a dry erase sleeve pocket.
