Frugal Hands-On Activity Featuring Lorax Fun

Are you looking for a fun and frugal activity to pair with The Lorax book by Dr. Seuss? Getting ready for a Dr. Seuss Day celebration (or Read Across America Week) and need some simple crafts? Perhaps you're planning a Dr. Seuss or Lorax party and want DIY decor and activities?

Well, this Truffula tree craft made with tissue paper and toilet paper rolls is perfect for all of those things and more!

The Lorax has been a special book for our family. I've read and enjoyed this story with all five of my boys. My middle boy (Smiley) was quite taken with this book, especially when The Lorax movie was released in 2012. In fact, when he was little, Smiley carried around a stuffed animal Lorax for a long time.

My boys and I have enjoyed Lorax themes as part of our Dr. Seuss Day and Earth Day celebrations. It has such positive messages. For example, this quote, “It’s not about what it is, it’s about what it can become.” is amazing for using with growth mindset activities.

And the reminders to take better care of our environment, like "“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” are powerful.

Over the years, I've tried to include a variety of activities, like coloring and copywork. Also, we enjoyed Lorax crafts, like this Truffula tree toilet paper roll.

02

Add the black lines

Once the paint dries, add the black lines. You can use a black paint pen or marker. Wrap each line around the toilet paper rolls.

  • If you're having trouble keeping the black lines straight, lay the toilet paper roll tube on its side, press the marker or pen against it and roll along until the line is all the way around.
