Add a Colorful Touch to Your Thanksgiving Fun
Need an easy and fun activity for your kids to celebrate Thanksgiving? Maybe you'd like frugal way to reinforce lessons on the letter T? Or perhaps you need a quick craft for kids that's affordable?
Well, this turkey paper plate craft is terrific for all of those things and more!
For most holidays, I could think of or find a bunch of easy crafts to enjoy with my boys. Thanksgiving, however, could be a bit difficult. It would start to feel like we'd be doing the same types of activities over and over again.
This paper plate craft featuring a turkey was one of our favorite projects. As I was going through a bin of crafts, I found several turkeys that each of my boys made (so we have a rafter of turkeys!) for DIY holiday decorations. We've used these cuties to decorate our homeschool area (a.k.a. dining room) and all around our home.
I had to recreate it and share with you. I truly hope that you and children have as much fun making and enjoying it as we did!
Suggested Supplies for This Turkey Craft for Kids
This craft requires only four supplies. You can add a few extras (I'll share my ideas below) to take your turkey to the next level if you have the time.
I suggest that you have these materials prepared so you'll be all set for craft fun with kids:
- Paper Plate
- Crayons
- Scissors
- Glue or glue stick
Tempera paint sticks (like Kwik Stix) can add a neat texture and bolder colors while keeping the project relatively mess-free. Markers and color pencils are other great options. Craft feathers can add an interesting effect, too.

Ideas for Making and Using Your DIY Turkey Crafts
I love how you can easily customize this craft with your students. Plus, you can enjoy this turkey craft in a bunch of ways for holiday fun with kids. Need a bit of inspiration on how to make and display? Here are a few of my ideas:
Easily add some customization to your DIY turkeys by using different colors of markers or paint. Glitter glue can also add a nice sparkle to your project. Oh, and googly eyes can be a silly effect!
Create several turkeys and attach to string (or yarn) to make a banner. Hang that banner on a wall, fireplace mantle, or at the top of a doorway.
Enjoy a DIY turkey scavenger hunt! Hide the turkey(s) around a room or a level of your home. Play music and see who can find the most. Maybe add in a little turkey dance just for fun!
Adhere a magnet to the back of your turkey craft. Use to add some special Thanksgiving decor to your refrigerator or magnetic white board.
Put a turkey or two in an Thanksgiving-themed wreath. You can also place in a Thanksgiving centerpiece or use as part of place cards!
