My boys are great fishermen-at least, they will tell you so! They jump at the opportunity to grab their rods & reels in pursuit of a large mouth bass or yellow perch. (Their fishing experiences have been mostly limited to fresh water lake fishing. All of my boys have big dreams of fishing in a variety of waters and geographic locations.)

Camping in the woods in a great big tent is another dream of my boys (one that I hope to fulfill soon!). Our family frequents an old cottage in the mountains of Western Maryland-that’s the extent of our camping experience. Nevertheless, we all wistfully talk of camping as a family.
As I planned for our new homeschool year, I looked for ways to spark my boys’ interests in their learning. Without a doubt, their level of cooperation and retention increases tenfold when I am able to include themes that they love. I shared Free Pokemon Blank Lists For Spelling & More that I created for a few of my boys. Now, I am super excited to share these blank lists with outdoor themes!

Professor (11) simply adores fishing. He loves to chat about different fishing approaches, as well as types of fish. His enthusiasm is quite contagious! I knew that camping & fishing themes would be perfect for him to get motivated with his spelling words.
Despite his avid interest in history and constant nose in a book, Professor has difficulty with spelling. He tells me that he knows what the word looks like in his brain but panics as he tries to spell it correctly.
Obviously, I want to help him overcome his fear of spelling. I have talked with him about sounding out the words and asking for help. He agrees, however, that he now needs more practice spelling as he gets older.
Professor was pleasantly surprised when I presented him with these camping & fishing blank lists. His typical reluctance towards spelling was lifted. Spelling was actually one of the first subjects that he tackled on our first day of homeschool!
