Let’s Enjoy Halloween This Year!
I want to help you make Halloween fun with your kids without all the stress. I know how quickly October can get busy, and it’s so easy to feel pressure to do all the things. But today, I’m sharing practical tips, free and frugal resources, and gentle reminders to help you relax, be present, and truly enjoy this season with your kids.
Let’s take the stress out of Halloween and bring in more fun, connection, and cozy moments together.
Let Go of the Pressure to Make It Perfect
Here’s your permission slip to stop chasing perfect.
Halloween doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive to be magical. Your kids don’t need Instagram-worthy crafts or curated photo shoots. They just want you. Time spent together. Laughs shared. A bat craft made with yarn and gluey fingers.
If you feel yourself getting overwhelmed or frustrated, pause and take a few deep breaths. Remind yourself that the joy is in the connection – not the outcome.

Add a Little Learning (Without Losing the Fun)
If you ever feel guilty about “doing fun stuff”, here’s your friendly reminder: Fun is full of learning.
You can sneak in so many educational opportunities, like:
- Read alouds like Halloween Is by Gail Gibbons
- STEM projects, like candy catapults
- Counting, sorting, or graphing Halloween candy
- Writing or drawing about spooky stories
- Practicing letters with handwriting worksheets
You’re supporting curiosity, creativity, and connection and that’s learning, too.
Prep Once, Enjoy All Month Long
Take 20–30 minutes to prep your Halloween fun in advance. Print activities, gather supplies, maybe cut a few craft pieces ahead of time.
Store everything in a folder, bin, or basket so it’s ready to go when you need it. You’ll be so glad you did when you need it for a homeschool break, after school downtime, or a rainy afternoon.
Bonus: These are perfect for brain breaks, transitions, or filling unexpected pockets of time.
Pace Yourself: Halloween Is a Season, Not a Day
You don’t have to do everything in one afternoon. Spread out your Halloween fun across the month or even beyond!
If you don’t get to everything on your list? Totally okay. Save it for next year or enjoy it into early November. No one says Halloween fun must stop on October 31!
Capture the Moments (for Yourself!)
Snap a few photos. Not justt for social media (unless you want to) but for your own sweet memories.
Your kids will love seeing their past Halloween crafts and activities. And you’ll love remembering their creativity and how much they’ve grown.
Even better, let your kids tell the story behind the craft: what they made, why they made it, or the silly moment that happened while doing it.
Make It Quiet Time Friendly
Halloween fun can be part of your child’s calm time, too! Some awesome quiet time activities with Halloween themes include:
- Coloring pages
- Surprise cards
- Handwriting sheets
- Simple puzzles
Pair them with soft music or a kid-friendly audiobook and enjoy a relaxing moment.
Let the Kids Take the Lead
Instead of doing it all for your kids, give them a few options and let them choose what they want to do.
It gives them ownership, reduces power struggles, and helps them feel confident and creative.
Plus, if you’re feeling decision-fatigue yourself, this trick is a lifesaver.
You Don’t Have to Do It All
Seriously.
Even if you only do one activity this season that’s one magical memory your kids will remember. And they’ll remember that you made time to do it with them.
So pick a few activities that feel fun and manageable for you. Circle a few that work with your schedule or just one. That’s more than enough.
High five, friend! You’re doing amazing work and I’m so proud of you!
