A Perfectively Creative Pumpkin Learning Activity

Need a simple yet super cool way to learn about the pumpkin life cycle? Well, here's an awesome free printable activity for making a diorama all about it!

With my boys getting older, I find myself seeking out new ways to make learning fun in our homeschool. And I love to chat with them about what's worked in the past and some of our favorite activities.

As we started planning and preparing for our back to homeschool fun, the boys reminded me of all the learning fun we've had with pumpkins over the years. We've sprouted pumpkin seeds and grown magnificent gourds in our backyard.

When I thought of ways to build on the learning fun with pumpkins that we've had in the past, I thought this 3D printable diorama featuring the pumpkin life cycle would be a blast!

This FREE printable set of pumpkin life cycle diorama activities includes 3 pages (+ terms of use page).

One page is the background in color. If you need a quick activity that's print-and-go, I suggest going with this one!

Another page is the background in black-and-white that your kids can color and customize.

The third page has the pieces of this life cycle in color and black-and-white.

Both styles include:

• Seeds
• Sprout
• Vines
• Flower
• Green pumpkin
• Orange pumpkin
• Labels for each of the above plus Pumpkin Life Cycle (in color)

Fun Ideas on How to Create & Enjoy This Life Cycle Diorama

I suggest that you print these pages on white cardstock. This step will help your diorama be more durable and easy to work with. Oh, and don't forget to print out extra copies in case one of your students wants to make an extra diorama or accidentally tears a tab.

You can make this life cycle diorama as it is. OR you could find a box (like a small shoebox) about the size of the diorama and place it in there.

Here's a list of supply ideas that you can use as you make your diorama:

• scissors
• glue or gluestick
• tape (or double-sided tape)
• coloring tools (if using the black-and-white version) like:
  • crayons
  • color pencils
  • fine-tip markers

I've found that it's best to make the activity ahead of time. It makes it simpler for me to explain to my boys and break down the steps. Also, I like having an example as I show the boys what I did. It's also fun to hear their ideas of how they'd like to create their own diorama!

And here's how my boys made this diorama are:

1. Print out diorama kit on white cardstock.
2. Pick out which style you'd like to use (color or black-and-white).
3. Color in background and pieces (if necessary).
4. Cut out background and pieces.
5. Assemble the background by folding in a forward direction at all dotted lines.
6. Smear glue on front part of each tab.
7. Fold in all sections and adhere tab.
8. Use tape to reinforce tab.
9. Glue and attach diorama pieces.
10. Add glue to tab of label and attach to top of diorama box.
