Fun Way to Celebrate Dr. Seuss & Reading
My boys and I love have learning fun with Dr. Seuss. Over the years, we’ve enjoyed his books and resources. This year, we plan on adding to our tradition of celebrating Dr. Seuss Day in our homeschool.
Now that Xman (5) is learning how to read, I’ve found that he’s at the perfect age to instill a life-long love of reading. His excitement bubbles over as he sounds out words and recognizes sight words.
Of course, I want to build on that enthusiasm. Read Across America week and our beloved Dr. Seuss Day celebration seems like the perfect time to introduce some fun activities to keep his reading momentum going.
Xman loves Dr. Seuss books. He will sit with a stack of these books and work his way through Fox in Sox and The Cat in the Hat.
I thought special bookmarks featuring his favorite Dr. Seuss characters would be a wonderful way to add to his reading fun. Xman sees his older brothers with their Harry Potter-Inspired and Star Wars-Inspired bookmarks. Now that he’s a reader, it’s time for Xman to have his own!
Creative Ideas for Boosting the Reading Fun with Dr. Seuss-Inspired Bookmarks
These Dr. Seuss-Inspired Bookmarks can easily be used as reading logs. In our state (Pennsylvania), we are required to keep reading logs in our homeschool portfolios. I love having something simple like a bookmark to jot down books or minutes read.
If you or your child will be writing down books read, jazz it up with some fun pens, pencils, or markers. Writing utensils with Dr. Seuss themes would be super cute to pair with these bookmarks.
