Slow Down & Enjoy Holiday Fun with Kids with a Christmas Tree Scavenger Hunt

The holidays are such a busy time of year. Your regular to-do list bursts with the additions of shopping, wrapping, baking, visiting, and celebrating.

So, how do you make sure you enjoy special moments with your kids? Those precious times that you'll look back upon with a smile.

You plan and prepare for easy fun activities. Activities that don't require a lot of time, effort, or money. Because it's the holidays and who has extra money laying around for that?!?

With homeschooling five boys (preschool to high school), I find that I must be intentional in how I spend my time. I have a tendency to go-go-go, adding more and more to our schedule.

Over the years, I have discovered that adding more activities does not increase our holiday happiness. On the contrary, all of us become miserable. Too much running around with errands and visits drains and strains.

I have found, however, that one special kind of addition provides us with holiday relief and connection.

Filled with intention and a slower pace, these special additions encourage our family to hit the pause button, reconnect, and rediscover the joys of Christmas.

One of our special additions this year is this Christmas Tree Scavenger Hunt.

I noticed my boys wanting to rush through the process of decorating our tree. Normally, this decorating time is a family moment that's savored and filled with reminiscing over old favorites and holiday stories.

To get the boys to slow down, I started asking simple questions. "Which ornament is the biggest?" and "Can you find an ornament with a picture?". The boys loved this game and started to pose challenges to each other.

Conversations started to flow and we're now using this printable Christmas Tree Scavenger Hunt to keep the fun going.
