How Positive Quotes Can Help Homeschool Motivation

If you've been a homeschooler for some time, you probably have noticed a pattern like this in your homeschool year.

You start off with a bang. After hours of planning and prep, you're pumped up to get back to homeschool. You've done everything you can to make sure you have a great start to this new season of learning at home.

Your enthusiasm is contagious. Your kids are cooperative and things just seem to flow.

You feel like you're walking on easy street. Homeschool life really couldn't get much better.

Then, that initial glee over back to homeschool time starts to fade.

Real-life stuff creeps in. Laundry piles, dirty dishes, and dust bunnies. Your kids' activity schedules seem to have overtaken your calendar.

All those good feels about homeschooling are still there. They're just getting crowded out.

When this happens to our family, our homeschool motivation tanks. It gets harder and harder to start our homeschool day. And harder and harder to keep up our routine.

This type of drop in homeschool motivation doesn't always happen after back to homeschool time. November and February are also times of year that a homeschool slump is a real struggle for many homeschoolers.

So, what can you do when you and your kids need a jolt of homeschool motivation?

Well, there is a slew of things you can do to boost energy levels and get excited about homeschooling again. After homeschooling my five boys for eight years, I've discovered that simple always works best

And for simple, I go back to what has worked for me in my life. As a graduate student studying community counseling, I graduated debt-free working as an intern at a Senior Citizen Center and cashier at Michael's craft store. Although I was often burning the candle at both ends with my studies and work, I stayed positive and thrived.

My simple strategy for maintaining that busy lifestyle was using positive quotes to keep me motivated. These simple quotes helped me keep my eyes on the prize as I worked towards my goals. I'd find new quotes from famous (and not-so-famous) people to guide my thoughts in positive directions

This approach worked wonders for balancing my studies, work, and health.

Over the years, I've collected hundreds of motivational quotes. I wanted to share these gems with you as simple yet powerful ways to boost your homeschool motivation 🙂

Powerful Ways to Use Positive Quotes for Homeschool Motivation

Okay, so these positive quotes are great! But, how are you supposed to weave them into your homeschool day to get your kids and yourself motivated?

I have found that this simple approach works well when we start our day off with a motivational quote. Based on what our homeschool needs at that time, I select a quote and read it. The boys and I may discuss it, depending on the quote and how it impacts us.

Often, at least one of the boys will give their opinion and ideas on how to apply the quote to our homeschool that day.

As our day unfolds, we revisit the quote whenever we need a positive reminder 🙂

Fantastic ways to use positive quotes for homeschool motivation include:

  • Homeschool morning time:  I have a special section on our homeschool morning time board for motivational quotes and affirmations. We also will jot down these quotes on a mini-chalkboard, whiteboard, sticky note, index card, and poster.
  • Part of your homeschool copywork
  • Creative writing prompts
  • Positive conversation starters to practice discussion tools and build connection
  • Whenever you need to pivot or redirect

Below, you'll find 100 positive quotes for homeschool motivation. These quotes are not homeschool-specific. I chose quotes that I believe can be applied to life in general. Homeschooling doesn't happen in a box or a bubble (at least, not in our family) so I strive to provide my boys with positive life skills that can propel them forward in our modern world.

When you scroll to the end of the post, you'll find the opportunity to subscribe and get a free printable set of these quotes. I find that having a hands-on component to these positive messages helps me follow through with using this simple approach 🙂

Questions & Conversation Starters to Apply These Positive Quotes

For a better idea on how I chat with my boys and apply these quotes to our homeschool day, here are a few questions and topics that we use:

  • What does this quote mean to you?
  • Name one way you can use this quote to keep you motivated today.
  • How can you use this quote today to stay positive (or motivated, energized, etc.)?
  • What would you tell a friend about this quote?
  • Is this motivational quote something that you would write down and share with others? Why or why not?
  • When you read this quote, how does it make you feel?
  • Share one way you will demonstrate using this motivational message in our homeschool today.
  • What do you wish other people would know about this inspirational quote and how it can improve their lives?

Those questions and statements are just a few ways that you can get your kids chatting about using motivational quotes in your homeschool and life. I encourage you to get creative and build on the conversation that you have with your kids to keep the energy going!
