How Mindfulness Activities Help Kids

If you're like most parents, you'd like to help your kids improve:

  • focus
  • attention
  • self-control
  • stress management
  • anger management
  • perseverance

Even if your child doesn't currently struggle with any of these areas, you know it's wise to provide them with a strong foundation of coping and growth mindset skills

Mindfulness activities give kids opportunities to learn, practice, and develop all of the above and more!

Why I Started Using Mindfulness Practices with My Boys

As a former mental health therapist, I want to make sure that I'm doing all that I can to help my boys have a growth mindset toolbox that they can use whenever they need it in life.

Life isn't always easy. Although we homeschool, my boys do NOT live in a bubble. They are involved in community, local school, and church activities. And they'll be heading out into the big world someday.

I'm doing everything I can to know that my boys are equipped with growth mindset skills to carry them through life's ups and downs 🙂

My five boys have a variety of personalities, interests, and abilities. A few boys struggle with anxiety. Others battle competitive streaks that cause frustration and perfectionistic tendencies. All of my boys have big hearts with big feels about their loved ones and the world.

Oh, and another thing...I've often heard that boys need to be tough, not show emotion. Boys aren't supposed to hug or cry or worry.

I say that's all hogwash!

It doesn't matter if you have boys or girls. All kids feel big stuff and think big things. And all kids need to know that it's okay to have those thoughts and feelings.

Mindfulness activities help practice how to accept those thoughts and feelings. Once those big thoughts and feelings and recognized, then kids can work on transforming, shifting, or redirecting them into healthy ones.
