This DIY Slime Recipe is SO Much Fun for Your Kids and You!
I love finding and incorporating hands-on ways to make learning fun for my boys. It's so cool to try all sorts of crafts and activities. Stuff like playdough and glitter don't scare me.
Slime? Well, I admit that I was a little wary of this slippery sea monster at first!
When my boys asked me if we could make slime as part of our homeschool fun activities, I winced. My first thoughts were that type of concoction would get all over the place -like stuck in carpet, on furniture, and in hair.
As my boys continued their pleas, I decided to give it a try. With a few simple and clear expectations, I discovered that slime time can really be an awesome addition to learning fun and life.
After trying all sorts of DIY slime recipes, I thought it was time to share our favorites. And I'm thrilled to share this slime with one of OUR favorite learning themes - OCEAN!

Tips for Super Fun Slime Time with Kids
I highly recommend setting clear rules and expectations with your kids when it comes to slime time. Here's what I go over with my boys:
- designate a specific area to use your slime
- discuss what tools, containers, and accessories are okay to use (and which ones are not)
- set a time limit (especially if you have a busy day)
- slime stays in your bubble (that's what my boys and I call about a one foot area around each person - so no slime "mysteriously" ends up on a sibling, pet, or parent)
- demonstrate how to care for and store your slime

Fun Ways to Boost Your Ocean Slime Play
Think outside the box as you make and enjoy your slime. Talk about other small things (instead of glitter) that you can add to the slime. And chat about resources that you can use for learning about oceans - like books, games, and videos.
A few of the simple ways that my boys use slime during our homeschool time (because it's a smart way to keep hands busy, especially during read-aloud time) are:
- Using a large plastic tray to contain the slime mixture and any accessories
- Keeping the slime in a bowl or on a plate
- Placing some of the slime in a small plastic bag and seal (or zip) - wonderful learning tool when placed on hard surface to practice forming letters and numbers, math facts, cursive handwriting, and more!
- Tape the small plastic bag to a window and use the same way to work on handwriting and math skills
