Our family loves all things Star Wars. Movies, books, and toys with Star Wars themes are often the first choice in our all-boy home. Playtime is infused with light saber duels and talk of "the Dark Side".
Always on the search for new ways to keep the learning fun going with my 5 boys, I thought about how to include our youngest boy, Xman (2) in the Star Wars fun. One of his new passions is playdough (in addition to trying to strip out of his clothes in 2.3 seconds and run around the house completely naked as he shrieks with glee).
Xman sees and hears big brothers talk about Star Wars. I figured if I selected a theme of interest that big brothers would be much more likely to do playdough time with little bro. Xman learns so much from them as it is. Let's keep that positive interaction going!
I went to my favorite search engine, Pinterest. I was surprised that I couldn't find what I was looking for with Star Wars and playdough.
I went on a search for cute clipart that would help Star Wars be appealing to my toddler. Also, we would need more playdough with Star Wars colors. We often make homemade playdough but making white is a challenge. (And you "need" pure white for BB-8 and R2-D2, or so I'm told!)

20 Star Wars Cards for Playdough & More!
My initial intention for this activity was to use the Star Wars cards for playdough fun. My boys have been having so much fun, spending their free time creating mini-Star Wars characters and weapons. As we used these cards, we came up with a few other ways to use:
- Memory game (print out two copies)
- Cards for story time
- Picture prompts for writing sentences and stories
- Art (sketch the characters individually or in scene)
- Cut & glue onto popsicle sticks for story props
As far as playdough (or any other craft, for that matter), I am not a stickler for details. I prefer to allow the boys to learn from the process and let their imaginations soar. These Star Wars cards are merely a starting point, a gentle guide to give that bit of spark they sometimes like to have with creative fun.
I am super excited to have these ready for some awesome family time. Coach loves Star Wars and has been the one to introduce all of our boys to the fun. I'm pretty sure that it will be easy to get Coach involved in these activities.
