Enjoy Frugal Reading Fun with Sharks

Do you need fun and easy ways to take reading time for kids to the next level? Or maybe you're planning for a shark learning theme? Perhaps you have children (or adults!) who really into Shark Week and you want to make them a unique gift?

Well, these shark bookmarks to color are perfect for all of those reasons and more 🦈

Lately, my boys and I have really enjoyed making and using our free printable coloring bookmarks. We get a kick out of having these DIY ways to customize our reading experiences for our homeschool work and reading for pleasure.

To keep things interesting, the boys frequently change between their Super Mario bookmarks, Minecraft bookmarks, and Pokemon bookmarks. I switch it up between our mermaid bookmarks, growth mindset coloring bookmarks, and mandala bookmarks (that have so many ways to use gorgeous colors!).

As I'm planning ahead for our summer fun activities, I squealed with delight when I spotted Shark Week. My boys have always enjoyed this special event as part of our homeschool fun activities. Plus, we all enjoy a good shark pun or two. That's why I'm so excited about these shark coloring bookmarks for us and to share with you!

Learn About These Free Printable Shark Bookmarks to Color

This FREE printable set of 5 shark coloring bookmarks is on one page (PDF format). All the bookmarks are in black-and-white to be colored and customized.

Each bookmark has shark themes (plus ocean creatures) and pun reading messages:

  • Reading is FINtastic (with shark, seahorse, two fish, and seaweed)
  • BITE into a good book (with two sharks, jellyfish, and starfish)
  • Books are JAWsome (with two sharks and a sea turtle)
  • Chews to read a great book (with three sharks)
  • Dive into a good book (with shark, fish, and seaweed)

Creative Ways to Make These Coloring Bookmarks

You can easily supercharge your coloring fun with these bookmarks. I suggest that you print these bookmarks on white cardstock for durability. It's also a great idea to laminate the bookmarks (after you're done coloring and customizing) to increase that durability.

I adore using glitter gel pens when coloring my bookmarks. The shimmery, shiny effects are spectacular! My boys prefer using color pencils and fine-tip markers.

Another easy way to strengthen the bookmarks is to use washi tape on the backs. This step reinforces the bookmark and can also add a fun pattern or texture.

We also like to use a hole punch at the top of the bookmark and add a ribbon or piece of colored twine or yarn.

Not sure if these black-and-white bookmarks with shark themes look that interesting for kids? No worries! You can really raise the fun level with these frugal activities!

Your students can create these bookmarks for their own reading time AND to share with friends and loved ones. These printable bookmarks are fantastic for:

  • Your shark party
  • Summer camp
  • Celebrating Shark Awareness Day (July 14)
  • Quick and easy activities for rainy day fun (or when the weather is too yucky to go outside)
