Creative, Hands-On Holiday Fun for Kids
Around the holidays, you can just feel the energy and excitement in the air.
Especially if you have kids!
How do you help them turn all of that enthusiasm into positive creativity? (And not knocking down the ornaments and other Christmas decorations as they dash around your home faster than a reindeer on a mission?)
A great way to do it is to provide your kids with simple, frugal, hands-on holiday fun activities!
As a mom of five very active boys who go cray-cray around the holidays, I know how important it is to have easy and affordable ways to channel the eager anticipation of Christmas.
When my two older boys were young, I sketch a variety of Christmas-themed shapes and figures. To keep the boys busy, I’d give them a few playdough containers and let them have hands-on fun (while I caught my breath or got something else done).
Oh, Captain and Professor would have such fun! Working the playdough in their hands and molding to fit the shapes, my boys would just talk all about their holiday hopes and dreams. So many happy memories of those days!
When I was thinking ahead to this upcoming holiday season, I thought how helpful it would be to have a nice, fresh set of free printable Christmas Playdough Mats for my younger boys – and to share with you 🙂
Fun Ways to Enjoy Holiday Fun with These FREE Christmas Playdough Mats
These playdough mats are easy to prepare and use.
Simply print out the black and white playdough mats (hope it helps you save ink!) on white cardstock (for extra durability).
You can use as-is (also great for coloring pages!) or laminate to extend the life of these printable activities. Another fun way to use these printable playdough mats is to put them in clear page protectors.
I encourage you to either gather a variety of playdough colors (our favorite set is here) OR make your own playdough (which really can be such fun plus you can add different extracts or essential oils for a boost).
If you’re working on a specific holiday theme (like decor or treats), then I suggest pulling out those playdough mats for use.
Another great option is to let your kids browse this collection of 15 Christmas Playdough Mats and pick what they’d like to work on first.
Oh, and you can flip over the pages and use your own ideas (and your child’s imagination) for a Christmas theme or two!
As always, playing holiday-themed music in the background while your kids work is an excellent idea for a fun holiday atmosphere 🙂
