Minecraft is a big hit with my younger boys. Their frequent conversations about the video game have helped me become somewhat familiar it. And, of course, I hear a lot about the different characters and features!

They've had a blast with our Minecraft bookmarks to color, Minecraft connect the dots, and Minecraft pixel art color by letter pages. But, I wanted them to have more hands-on ways to enjoy one of their favorite games.

Over the past year or so, my boys have also added perler beads to their craft time fun. They enjoy using these small plastic beads (also called Hama beads) to create all types of cute creatures, critters, and characters. Sometimes, the boys turn these DIY creations into little toys, keychains, and adorable decor.

Always looking to spark creativity and boost screen-free fun, I decided to combine these interests into some fun activities that the boys can use in a variety of ways. How to Create This Type of Perler Bead Art with Kids

You can easily make the most of your perler bead art time with these tips and tricks. You'll discover that these ideas make these special time more enjoyable for all.

I highly recommend that all of your supplies ready and organized.

To provide my boys with creative opportunities, I purchased a huge canister of perler beads and perler bead pegboards that attach (in case the boys want to enlarge the patterns and make larger characters).

Also, I got a plastic craft organizer so the boys could sort the perler beads by colors. Psst! This type of sorting activity is a sneakily fun way of helping your kids build fine motor skills and more 🎉

These perler beads tweezer tools are helpful for some kids. These tools are completely optional - my boys like using their fingers to arrange the Hama beads (also known as melty beads or fuse beads).

Put your perler bead creation (on the pegboard) on a flat surface.

The perler bead pegboards pack that I bought has reusable ironing paper. I've also read that you can also use parchment paper or waxed paper. This paper is placed upon your completed creation.

You'll need an iron to fuse your perler beads. I typically set the temperature of my iron to a medium heat. When the iron is warm, firmly press it on the ironing paper and slowly move it around. I check the perler bead creation about every 30 seconds to see how well the beads are melting together.

In terms of using these Minecraft perler bead patterns, I suggest looking at each template and encouraging your child pick a favorite one for their first craft activity. My boys cut out the perler bead pattern cards and placed next to their pegboards. They found it easier to make their Minecraft creations with this step.

Oh, and if you don't have the exact colors, please don't worry! Simply use what you have and enjoy your perler bead creations 😊

Tips & Tricks for Having a Blast with These Minecraft Perler Bead Patterns

I bet that your kids will have some incredible ideas for their perler bead design. Brainstorm ways to enjoy at home and share your Minecraft perler bead crafts with others.

An idea that's been a big hit with my crew is to start a collection of perler bead crafts. My boys like to put their crafts in their bedrooms, decorate our bookcases with them, and put them around our homeschool area for fun surprises.

Another fun idea is to leave a space or hole near the top of your Minecraft perler bead craft. Add a key chain ring or loose binder ring. You can use this type of creation to hold your keys, decorate party gift bags (super cute gift tags!), and as party favors.

Oh, and you can use a hot glue gun to adhere a magnet to your Minecraft perler bead crafts! Decorate your refrigerator and homechool carts with these fun crafts.

My boys also like to have some creative play with their perler bead crafts. It's so much fun to watch them reenact different scenarios with some of their favorite game characters.
